This team is so bad, even with Nico and Bratt. It’s adding a 2nd line center and 3rd line winger. Woooo.

We could’ve added Josi and Hall and we’d still miss the playoffs.

- MartysBetter88

That's a pretty harsh assessment. Nico is well on his way to becoming a 1C, if he isn't already there now. Hughes needs to take a big step forward. If I may sub out Josi for Hedman, we would absolutely be a playoff team:

Johnson Nico Palms
Hall Hughes Gusev
Kuok Zacha Bratt
Boq Zajac Bastian Not a strong line for sure!

Hedman Severson
Murray Vatanen
Butch P.K.

A 30 minute stud like Hedman is enough to improve any teams standings by 12 points over the course of a season. He just snuffs out all opponents and comes right back at you. It's not even fair when he is on the ice if you look at the numbers.

One can dream but we just don't have a true 1D at the moment. IF* P.K can become the 30 point D he should be, while not being an absolute liability in our zone, we could muster up some mediocre D with Vats back in town, and a healthy Murray. IF*

"on his way" is different from actually being one. Again, we're a bad team that will be adding a 2nd line center and 3rd line winger. I don't think we're a playoff team adding Hedman and any superstar you want. We'd need EVERY one of our kids to take multiple steps forward in development, Severson to play top of his game, Subban to play 3 years younger, Smith to not be a rookie, Vatanen to also play 3 years younger, Murray to not get hurt. And that's just the defense.. which would be an average defense even with those things- as Severson, Smith, Vatanen, Murray were never great.. good on their best days.. which isn't a bad thing.

Johnson Nico Palms - a 2nd line center and mmaybe a 30g scorer in Palmieri. Johnsson.. we really have no idea. He's a 3rd line winger.

Hall Hughes Gusev - Hall yay, but who's to say Hughes can manage to play between those 2 wingers and not continually turn the puck over and be -30? No proof of otherwise (yet). He looked like Rob freaking Schremp in his rookie season, not a 1st overall pick. Gusev was decent the 2nd half of last year, but again.. decent, not amazing.

Kuok Zacha Bratt - we're HOPING Kuok can be something, we know Zacha is passive, and Bratt is small and inconsistent.

Boq Zajac Bastian - blessings to Boqvist, but this line achieves nothing.

See- still not a playoff team.

Add McDavid and you have an amazing playmaker and scorer.. but he's only on one of our lines. Is this team better than the 2018 team where Hall carried us? And in THIS division? The depth and overall talent of at LEAST 4 other teams in the division would mean we don't make the playoffs.

I tend to agree that you're being a bit harsh in your assessment. I'd say 1st line center and 2nd line winger. While the point totals may not be there for Nico yet he has all the other tools already in place, his GAR is among the best in the league among all forwards, not just centers. Its fine if you dont think he's not a stud elite #1 center, which he isnt yet, but hes absolutely a 1st line center in this league. As for Bratt, again his point totals have been low but thats not his fault. He's actually been extremely efficient 5v5 point producer and a very good transition player and passer, he was just getting screwed by Hynes and has been doing it with 4th liner TOI. So if he actually gets consistent top 6 minutes, theres no reason he cant be a 50 point player atleast

I dont think anybody is arguing how bad we are, i think we all agree we're finishing last in the division and getting a top 5 pick barring the lottery knocking us back

I def think Bratt can be a 50pt player, and Nico can be 1st line center, but right now they're not. Yes, it's nice Hischier is a solid 2-way guy and can handle good wingers, but he needs to take one more step for him to be objectively a 1st line NHL center. Maybe we're just used to our BAD team that we see a kid with talent that's decent and think he's a 1st line guy, when on most teams he'd be a 2nd line C.

I wasn't really serious. It was just a goof considering the arguments I've been in.

Last year we were all excited after adding PK, Goose, Simmonds and Hughes. We had Taylor Hall and Blake Coleman; and felt thought we'd be competitive and maybe a playoff team. That lasted two thru two periods of hockey against Winnipeg. This year it just looks like a development year to see if the kids can step up.

Not only last in the division, last in the league! They will have the best chance of winning the draft lottery!

Just so everyone knows this is not a hot take and the most likely scenario.

Can Seattle move up from 3? Are they a part of the lottery or are they at 3 by default and whoever doesn’t win 1st or 2nd in the lotto then picks 4th?

Yeah they can pick anywhere from 1 to 6, they just get slotted in at the 3rd best odds. Vegas slid from 3 to 6 in their first draft

For traveling players, are they able to play in AHL games or just practice with the NHL team?

It's good for who we have

They can practice with the Devils, but have to be assigned to Bing to play/practice with the AHL squad, so they are like extra healthy scratches.

Taxi squad is only for the NHL team. They need to be sent down to play in the AHL, which i think atleast Foote and Senn will be once the AHL season starts

I'm glad Ty made the roster, he looked good in the intra-team scrimmages. Sharangovich and Kuokkanen looked like NHL caliber players and ready to make the jump, excited to see them play.

McLeod also made the roster. He's had some middling performances in the NHL so far. Still only 22 but for a player with his toolset you'd expect more out of him. Interesting to see what he can contribute this year.

so including Seattle, there are still 3 lottery winners, and then a lotto to decide the order of those 3? It's the same as usual lotto with Seattle just added to the mix at 3rd best odds?

Mikey with the big 5 assists and 17 PIMs in 33 NHL games.....

In 108 AHL games he's put up 57 points (14 Goals, 43 assists & 104 PIMs).

I don't feel good about it, but good luck to him and all the other new kids on the squad.

With fourth line minutes he can't screw up too much. But also hard to impress from that line as well. Hope for the best!
