Wow. What an awful signing. I’m sure he’s a good role player and character guy, but the contract is way out of line in today’s cap world.

Good signing, locked up for three more years and only a bump in salary from 2.8 to 3.1 million according to cap friendly.

That is a terrible signing. Comparing what that cap hit to any recent signins, it sure looks like an overpayment. Not to mention he still had a full season to play before you needed to re-up the guy at 30 years old. Not a good move

I like Foligno, but i think this is over payment. Not sure why Billy thought he needed to go that high, but i'm thinking something around 2 mil per would have been a bit more in line with the role that Marcus provides. Is it a horrible signing? No, i don't think so, bit of an over reaction from all the arm chair GM's...

Actually, I like this signing. I think people are going to be surprised by that line of Greenway/Eriksson-Ek/Foligno. I honestly believe that the model for the Wild is going to be a defensive team for this season, needing to basically win a lot of 3-2 games. If that line can be an elite shut-down line as it is being sold as right now, that will free up the top 2 lines to focus a lot of energy on offense. And even though the cap space is listed at $3.1 mil, his actually salary for next year is only $2.1 mil, which is meant to help the Wild out in actual costs. This helps by allowing money for next year to help cover the losses each and every team is taking this year. Smart play by BG on this.

I also believe that this signing is the precursor to some trades that Billy is going to be making during the season in Dumba and Parise. Trading those 2 away, depending on what comes back, opens up $13.5 million in cap space. I think BG has a very set plan in place and is just systematically moving through it. Honestly, as Wild fans, are you not sick of the Wild just being a middle of the road type team year after year.

Wouldn't anyone picking up Parise's cap hit want to send similar amount back to Wild?

The Ladd deal that almost went through last year. But some of that can be parked in Iowa as well I believe. Just have to get creative.
