Great news, good luck to him, he’ll come out motoring tomorrow.

But what happened to B. Ryan?

Ryan got banged up during one of the scrimmages. He’s no contact for now, but skating. I’m surprised there weren’t more injuries, some of those guys went at it pretty hard. Sounds like he’ll be wearing the Winged Wheel soon!

Kind of a cool “aside”. When Lidstrom and Ozzie both retired, it was tough. Definitely the end of an era for my wife (both favorite players, she had signed jerseys from both). When Larkin came onto the scene, it brought some new excitement. That was the first time she wanted to get a new Wings jersey. I obliged a while back. While this one isn’t signed, it was still exciting to see her and so many people feeling optimistic about the future while the last of the 2008 champions made their way out of Motown.

Our jerseys hang proudly, and are now ready for an upgrade. Adding the “C” will be a fantastic way to kick off a new season

Me too. That young man has battled his entire life to rise above pain and difficulty. The willingness to come to Detroit and be a part of a transitional season speaks volumes to how he feels about facing a challenge. He’s excited to be here, and most people are really excited to see him. It takes a lot of guts and character to overcome and keep going.

You should "retire" and give your older jerseys honor by hanging them in the "rafters" of your house.

We’ve talked about it! She has Lidstrom, Ozzie and Bertuzzi all signed. She also has a game used goalie stick from Ozzie, signed. I have Bertuzzi and Eaves both signed. Bert was always so cool to us. So many good memories. A friend of mine made his basement counter out of chopped hockey sticks. Looks very cool.

Quick note, I want to involve you all quite a bit more this season. As it pertains to games, I’ll be sending some of you DMs to ask for your thoughts about upcoming contests. Also, fans from teams in the Central, I’ll be touching base with you as well. I want to do a Detroit fan perspective and an opponent fan perspective. If your team is in the central this year and you’d be willing to give some input, just “raise your hand” here on the board. Carolina is around the corner, I know there are some Canes fans that come to the board. Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Florida, Tampa Bay and Nashville, just let me know in the comments. This is a bit “experimental”, but I think the board is a lot of fun when other team fans stop by.

Dig it, J!!! This'll be fun....kinda like sitting at the old Montreal Forum wearing my Wings jersey & having discussions with Hab's fans about our perspectives on the game, teams, players, etc....

Said it before; Ryan is character. Another indicator that The Captain is trying to change the culture in the locker room and on the team.....one move left

Would've loved to have had Game 1 in LCA, arena darkens, players introduced, Larkin's last, spot-light on the entry tunnel: "And Now.....YOUR CAPTAAAINNNNNNN....DYLAN LAAARRRRRRRRKINNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!' Fireworks go off, crowd screams, lights flash......Kid really deserves something like that at some point in time. He's weathered SO much adversity, been forced to deal with less than positive comments from the coach, answering the same negative questions after every loss......

Regardless; DL is the only logical choice and will do VERY well. He represents the very best of his predecessors and will ad yet another chapter to the book of leaders that have called HockeyTown home.

Congrats, DL!!!!!!!!!

Looking at the "Taxi Squad" I'm going to make a prediction that Givani Smith will have the most impact and has the best chance of taking someobody's job.

He's been the most improved player that I've seen in Grand Rapids the last year or so. He plays with an intensity this team needs badly. He's also gotten better with his puck control and he's using that long reach of his to his advantage. The sandpaper he brings to the team is a very important intangible that can help this team. Players like him make the this team harder to play against. I'm confident he can chip in some offense if he gets the opportunities. He is also a tenacious forechecker... which this team needs. That will hopefully help create some turnovers and maybe more scoring opportunities.

Lindstrom was looking better at the end of the AHL season last year... but I've seen other teams (Chicago Wolves) take some cheap shots and liberties with him (guessing because he's a Euro). This was mainly because McIlrath was not in the lineup that night... not a coincidence. I think Lindstrom has potential to make the team if they Wings get banged up on defense.
