This is from Kingerski a few minutes ago, but if true that's quite a two way game for this line:

Penguins third line has not allowed a shot attempt.

Not a single attempt at 5v5, 7-0.

theyve been noticeably positive out there.

I dont think anyone would claim Jarry should have had those, but the 3rd and 4th were pretty ugly.
- stackthepads

3rd was all Jarry. 4th he got clipped and couldn’t reset in time. Good quick play to get the puck out front

I'll agree with you on Jarry. Disagree on Matheson though.

thats a rough sequence but im more inclined to live with stuff like that. a moment or two before he had a great chance in the slot.

he misplayed it on a pinch that started it, but for better or worse those things come with an offensive defenseman. and for what its worth he got back.

they look sloppy now and obviously have a four spot on them, but i think scoring will be harder for this team than stopping them overall. im open to giving him some time to see if he helps that. poopty contract but theyre stuck with him and may as well try it.

Matheson has all those positives you listed. He isn't without natural talent. I don't like the trade off though and I'd much rather break him in with more sheltered minutes.

totally not unreasonable stance. hopefully the top six generates more consistent pressure and they can do just that

This third line looks like it may be better than anything we had last season. Definitely wasn't expecting that, but like to see it.

Geno is definitely a step or two slower than he was in August. That was only 5 months ago so I'm not sure whats up with that.

especially if mccann can have a week or two where the wrister goes hot.

besides them and crosby, really wasnt a whole lot of good to take from this slop.

Could be that he's rusty for the first game of the season after an abnormal offseason, or could be that he's 34. I guess we'll see.

I thought Zucker had some jump out there. I know Im on my own here but I like the Matherson Marino pairing, I think they just got alot of unlucky bounces

would really suck if its more the latter.

i dont really expect the pens to be a top team this year, but i do really look forward to crosby and malkin both having good years as they get closer to the sunset

Yeah I don't really have a ton of expectations from here on out. I'm just trying to appreciate what games we have with those two left.

see matheson is where i will be much more open minded than cici. people will oooh and ahh when he finally buries one, then vomit when he gets burned. viewing the player in a vacuum aside from the contract, thats just what he is for better or worse.

ive always dug zucker as a player. he always hustles. didnt really see a ton of tangible chances from that line as a whole, but its game one.

edit: as matheson almost buries another one. the contract/move has been discussed to death, but it is what it is and hes here. he will suck a lot but unlike JJ, you will get moments of positive plays.

I would have said this had we won. I've been saying this since the offseason. I don't see it with this forward group. I don't think we'll get enough goals down the line up come playoffs to make a serious push. I'm not all the way into the "we won't make the playoffs" camp. I think we will, but I'm past the point of getting emotionally distraught when we get knocked out or worse still miss all together.

I'll give you this... They're not playing a style that's conducive to winning with aging stars. I think they have enough talent, but they really need to focus on preventing goals. I said this yesterday.
