Nylander was the best player on the ice, and AA liked it.

So one game in...

1. Nylander is the MVP
2. The officials are biased against the Leafs
3. Leafs are winning it all.

Good to see nothing has changed.

If only he wasn't so quiet we could've got to know him.

I actually didn't think dermott was that great, and I've been a dermott supporter. That, and bogo doesn't have to eat another human every single game to have his presence felt back there. Him stepping on the ice is a check and balance to other players in our own end.

Agreed on the dumb penalties though, if that became the regular I would probably sit him eventually.

To each their own though. 🤷‍♂️

- joel878

His job is to defend and I don’t think the mere fact of his terrifying presence alone accomplishes that. He wasn’t great but not horrible. I think we’ll see some kind of combo of him and Dermott and maybe Sandin circling in and out.

Overall, sloppiness you’d expect. I liked the third line. I think they showed some solid potential. Keefe has lots of flexibility and seems ready to jumble things up over course of game. You could see different feel to top line when Hyman went up for example (how do you see a feel). You don’t need to make that a permanent change but a nice in game adjustment as circumstances dictate.

not sure if Vesey actually waited... that would require him to actually be awake... he looked comatose out there for most of the game.... maybe he's that cerebral ... but I don't know.

gotta think the Thornton experiment won't last too long.. so either Hyman or Mykevev will move up.

thought Kerfoot looked lost as well.

of the 6 newcomers -- Thornton looked best yesterday.
he'll be fine.

Drouin played his best game as a Hab. If he can actually find his game, that would be very worrisome.

I want to vomit hearing Freddy "Saved" the Leafs and the fight won them the game. So typical of the media.

Oh i dont think he was great by any means.
But had he shot right away, i feel he would have hit prices pad or something. He waited a milisecond and got more open as price dropped to his belly.
Thornton cant stay on the top line, even if its for every other shift.
Theyll be changes throughout the next 10 games or so.

He finished with 3 assists but some fans are saying he didn't look involved.

Give him a couple more games and then sub him out for one of the three guys waiting if he doesn't get better.

Kevin McGran's game report in the Star is chock full of meaningless player quotes.

Here's my favourite:

“It was a good game to play in, and to watch,” said Morgan Rielly, who netted the overtime winner. “We open the year with a win. I mean, they’re a good team. They came out, played hard. That’s what we expected.”

Depth player
Its one game.
Gonna hope he doesnt continue to take alot of penalties. He played well for Tampa last season.
There is some hope.

I have come to the conclusion that I don't watch the games as intensely as you guys do.

But Thornton looked out of place to me.

I agree, Thornton looked very handsome with the trimmed beard and wearing the blue and white.

But had little impact on the game itself.

Simmonds had more of an impact on the game in one shift.

Not saying Thornton was bad, he wasn't, just didn't do anything remarkable.

I'd try Simmonds with Tavares and Nylander... I think that would prevent Tavares from doing so much of the heavy lifting on that line.

I'd leave Thornton with Matthews and Marner... but perhaps swing Hyman in there more frequently.

Not trying to be a Richard here, but what is this opinion based on?

Have you been scouting him in Europe?
