His slapshot, setup by Kerfoot, in the 3-on-3 excluded, Mikheyev was out of sync for most of the game in my opinion. - Monkeypunk

Overall sloppy as a team with some strong performances. Based on that I am very impressed by everyone’s ability to clearly identify the one or two players who clearly stunk |

Simmonds let up.. I am sure they will go again next game.. Need to get retribution on Chiarot for those cross-checks on Matthews. |

Some of it was sloppy.. I thought Andersen was a little sloppy and didn't really look comfortable until that save in OT. |

Keefe is very committed to the third line as it’s constructed. He’ll move guys up in-game as the situation dictates. I didn’t see anything last night that would cause him to change his mind. |

Nylander - Good, except that one moment he was literally standing in front of the net screening andersen instead of covering his man in OT. It was actually really funny but also extremely boneheaded
Tavares, OK, I didn't think he was noticeable outside of the goals he was involved in, and Josh Anderson made him look like a fool
Simmonds, I actually liked his game and he looked faster out there than people give him credit. He was getting into dirty places around the puck a lot and played with jam.
I didn't really notice Brodie which was cool, couple slick skating moves here and there when carrying the puck along the line. There was one point where he had to take a hard pass from rielly on his backhand and then put it on his forehand to get a shot off. No harm done this time but those extra 1.5 seconds might burn him at some point.
I liked Matthews and Marner, but there's this thing about them where it really doesn't look like that killer instinct comes out until they're down.
Kerfoot was actually noticeable in that he didn't look dangerous at all last night.
Vesey is my new hero. But he still sucks. - TheMussel
I don't want this to be misconstrued: Kerfoot made a nice spinning back pass in the 3-on-3. Outside of that his offensive abilities were completely devoid yesterday. But he was actually skating. Most of the Leafs looked slow and lethargic.

It's a fair point, but I would say that if I was being objective - there were very few Leafs that looked like they were ready to face real competition. Before I pass judgement on anyone, they need a few games each. Montreal came out of the gate ready. Were Keefe's Blue & White games too loose? Maybe? I don't know what happened in the camp, but I know that the Leafs had no intensity or desire to play at the level the NHL requires when the puck dropped.
Training camp matters, and no one really had one across the entire league. Some teams looked more prepared last night than others. Some players looked better than others. Christ, if Danault had a normal training camp, we wouldn't be happy today. That was the saddest breakaway I've ever seen, and I saw Dave Andreychuk on a breakaway once. Once.
On the Leafs, the defensemen who ramped up as the game went along were Rielly and Brodie. Holl, Muzzin, Bogosian and Dermott were all slow to react, poorly positioned, and not fluid. At times it looked like an outdoor game with how slow everyone was moving.
Up front, Nylander, Matthews, Tavares and Kerfoot had legs enough for this game. Marner got better as the game went on. Vesey didn't look bad, but he didn't really impress overall. It was a good goal he scored in that he showed poise. Barabanov, for all his lack of impression (he played less than 6 minutes) actually looked like he wanted to play, he just didn't or couldn't get it going. Mikheyev, Spezza, Thornton and Hyman were all pretty blah. Simmonds . . . I mean. We see so few fights as Leaf fans now. I was piqued. I watched and said, "Ow! Ow! Ow!" and then I watched the replay and said, "Ow! Ow! Ow!". So that part was good. - Monkeypunk
I'm so franking sick and tired of the entire team "ramping up as the game went along."
I'd love to know how many times over the past 5 years where the other team has scored first.
I'm guessing it's over 66% |

It is extremely frustrating.
I'll say it again, it's like the big boys substitute effort with skill to start the game instead of putting in a big effort and letting their high end skill take them over the top when an average player would tire out or make a mistake |

Didn’t work out well in the playoffs/those weren’t playoffs you idiots. Lack of consistency was one of the points raised by Dubas. It’s not enough to panic over but they need to up their cliche level. |
