5 minutes ice time for the Barbanov, pretty tough to get any rhythm...especially playing with Simmonds who looked a bit off.

He did plenty of great saves.

Can't really blame him for any goals against.

2 great shots by Nylander (that 2nd one with Edmondsuntont's broken stick, he took his sweet time and placed it perfectly)
1 unexpected turnover with a guy alone in front of the net
1 great deviation by Tavares.
A 2 on 1 in OT.

Stats don't look great but he was solid.

He will steal a game against the leafs this year for sure!

There seems to be a lot of disagreement on some items from last night so I'll just clear them up for you guys. 🤣

Slow start: I don't think it was as much the leafs were poop out of the gate as it was the Habs were really good. There was a few gaffs but largely seemed less lost and confused as a group then prior editions. Penalties made it look worse than it was...

Freddie: Gave up 4 goals on 19 shots and then stood on his head. Couple of whiffs. Without the whiffs he has a damn good game. Pretty much same story as always... Hope he gets it sorted eventually. 🤦‍♂️

Nylander: can we all just agree that the people still whining about Willie are dumb and don't know much about hockey?

Marner: probably stop 'shooting more' if that's how it's going to go. He needs to simplify his game and focus on maintaining his creativity with more responsibility.

Thornton: yiiiiikes.

Simmonds: beaut.

Holl: played a good game, surprised at the criticism on him but us leaf fans got to have our whipping boy I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Dermott: pretty average game, would prefer to see Lehtonen.

Bogo: not the kind of guy people should be expecting to be perfect on the backend, which is acceptable to a degree IF he stays out of the box. Prefer him in the lineup.

1 game: it's definitely only one game. 🤷‍♂️

Brodie did his job last night, allowed Rielly to be a rover on the ice.

They didnt get thumped on defending the rush which has been a common theme for his pairing since Hainsey left.

I don't know what happened or who was at fault for the 2 on 0 while we were on the PK yesterday, but that was unacceptable. I used a lot of choice words. And then I think I invented some.

Yeah that wasn't great, but again we see a lot less of those mistakes as the season goes on.

It was very sloppy and I hope these two games against OTT helps before they face some good teams again.

I thought we looked great the 1st 5
Dermott played better then Hlol

Simmonds and Thornton both looked rusty with the puck.

We can’t continue to give up break aways and odd mans, and yes Freddie looked shaky on the 2nd Anderson goal.

Now watch, he'll get a whiff of one single covid virus on a windy day and he'll get it lol

Interesting article on Canada’s pandemic response: we don’t have infrastructure capacity/history to do testing/vaccine rollout well because we don’t have a well defined national security framework. Who’s going to attack us?

There’s a reason why Israel did such a good job getting people vaccinated. What we do well is write cheques - which shouldn’t be diminished. We are prepared to support people to hunker down till threat is gone we’re just not good at making good at making threat go away.

There were lots of "awee shiiiit" moments last night.

Anyone writing lists of each player, talking about how they think they'll do this year based on one game is an idiot. Glad they came away with a win, but it was ugly. All everyone is doing is making stuff up to make their favourite players look good, and the ones they don't like look bad.

If we look at things from a "good" perspective: I did see Bogo moving people out of the front. That's something not a lot of Leaf D do or have done. That was good and nice to see. He was boxing out well. Again, most of our D are not that strong and don't do it well. He looked slow, but that penalty on Suzuki (while absolutely a penalty) is only called 50% of the time. I have patience for him. If Tampa could use him for the full run to the Cup playing 18 minutes / game, we can find a use for him.

Holl & Dermott: I like them both. I didn't like anything about their games yesterday. I am trying to think of what I liked, but I draw a blank . . . I thought they were both very slow to react, looked slow on the ice, made poor decisions, and weren't sure of their role with their partner, got bunched together as a result - which in Holl's case is really odd since he's with Muzzin. Not being a jerk - what did you see that you liked in Holl?

I beleive a fight can light a fire under the team and have an impact, does it ultimatley effect the outcome, probably not.

and last night, I dont think it had anything to do with the 2 penalties that followed

- senstroll

Im not saying it did or didnt. Just that it picked the team up and got them going.
Maybe bringing a little more intensity to their powerplay.

Perhaps that needs to change.
Time for Canada to be a little more independent.
Better infrastructure, more internal production
and more and better milirary support equipment: evacs, transport etc. Get a damn aircraft carrier ffs.
Doesnt help with covid at all, i get that. But we need one or two....cause.
