Yup. And I've kept telling them that that place is r/politics.

Go being annoying with annoying politics talk there.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Well I’m sorry for not being around the last little while... but now with hockey back I do plan to be so I’ll be sure to not let things go too far

So obviously I've been one of the worst culprits in political talk...

99% of what we've talked about is the gross incompetency of the Trump presidency. And a huge part of that was the failure to take COVID-19 seriously.

That lack of leadership has affected - and will continue to affect - hockey.

So I don't think that the politics in this thread has been completely unrelated to hockey.

And quite honestly, without the political talk here for the past 9 months, Ek would have had a hard time paying the bills.

We can all have different views and survive. This place is gonna be a poopshow either way, might as well hurt some feelings and have fun with it along the way.

I don't know if anybody listened to Hockey Central today - Burkie had some pretty weird observations about Willy.

Said that for his second goal, there's less than 30 guys in the league who have a shot good enough to score that goal. That it would go in on any goalie in the league.

Then went on to say that the only thing Nylander does for your team is score goals. It was Burkie, so obviously said it in a bit of a snarky tone.

So then the host asks if every team can have one guy on the team like that - "like a Kessel" - and Burke realizes he's just been badly painted into a corner, so he hums and haws and says yeah, sorta, I guess.

I love Burkie - he's always entertaining, even if he's incoherent.

Hes definitely a bit of a hot head.. But tbh, i dont think anyone knows exactly what the winning formula is. My views on WN are pretty close to his. We acknowledge he's a talented player, but if he doesnt score, he doesnt bring anything else. Like phil.

Had the oppurtunity to meet him at Harbour 60 restaurant a few years ago, when he was still in power. He was very polite, came over to our table and asked if we were Leaf fans. Had a good chat. Only 2 tables with people at them in the place.

A friend has an epic story about meeting him in a bar in Chicago before a rugby game.

My friend will defend Burkie to the death - said he was just a great guy.

Phil has two cups riding shotgun with two superstar centers.

Willy can be our Phil

It is pretty well known that I dislike Andersen, but after the 4-3 goal he made a number of good saves and gets more credit than any other Leaf for the win.

So annoying to see the guys come out with no fire and no jam whatsoever. Clearly effort is not something required by the organization.

Thornton probably shouldn't even be on the 4th line. I hope they figure that out.

- Aetherial

They’ll mix him in and out of the first line. There weren’t many forwards particularly good last night. He’ll get an awful lot of rope. Management really wants to keep that third line together

I dont want to suck any Richard here, but for what it's worth AA, I don't fully understand the hate you get. Maybe some of it, but not #1 most insufferable on the thread

I feel like we should talk less about who used to be annoying and more about how much the Leafs need to keep Hyman on that first line for now.
- Scabeh

yeah, but that is only the start of what the team needs.

You'd think the leafs lost the way the refs are spoken about today.

Quite honestly, I do my best to stay objective because 1. they are human and make mistakes. 2. It will happen to everyone at some point. It just sucks it happens to your team when it does.

- Aaron_85

As stated earlier, I thought the reffing was bad on both teams.

It's the first game of the season. They'll get better.

Like the referee's kick pass to Nylander to set up Vesey's goal - it was way out in front of Nylander. Ref knows that needs to be on Nylander's tape - we aren't bribing him $10,000 per game to make crappy passes.

To be honest, I was very surprised by the Habs. They played well together and they were first to the puck a lot.

Suzuki has a lot in the tank. He didn't get tired. Looks like he may have another gear too.

Wait, he scored 31 goals last year and you’ve been dumping on him all summer. He does score.

How about we see how things go a bit before pulling everything apart? Hyman is more important where he is.

Can’t blame Price for any of those goals either... two absolute rockets from Nylander, a deflection in tight from JT, a bad luck bounce off the official leaving him out of position, and a 2 on 1 where his d man bought into JT’s sell

I'm happy with what I saw.

It's only one game, but I could see Anderson being a fan favorite if he plays like this on most nights.

Romanov played over 20 min in his first game and didn't look out of place.

Things are looking up.... but we lost.
