There’s a reason he’s been the teams MVP the last 2 seasons

I agree Todd, if Dubes not available I’d move Mangiapani onto the top line. He’s definitely stirring the drink right now.

After last night one can argue the top line was Monahan & Gaudreau.
Loved that hit by Hanifin & wish we can see a lot more of that!!!!

Honest question for all you Fellow Flame baglickers. Do we have anyone we feel confident that can properly back up Markstrom? Because I see opportunity here.
Riitch is itching for a #1 gig & we all know there is no way he's resigning for back up money behind Marky for the next 5 years. He was an all-star(invited to the all star game) last year. There are several teams desperate for a goalie, we could probably get a pretty damn good haul trading Riitch. But would that be wise?

I also like the fact that they’ve identified vancouvers stars and made it difficult for them. Tkachuk hitting Hughes every opportunity he gets, going to make it tough for him to get going.

After watchIng Ward throw Rittich to the wolves (Stars) last year and how he responded, I’m not to confident in Rittich right now.
When do you think he’ll get to play?

Its a gamble but one worth looking into. I think Buff could be a good option with either Hutton or Ullmark plus a significant sweetener coming back (balances cap $ and gives us a backup). With us not playing until Sunday today would be the day for such a move.

Dont know but the way Marky is playing & how important every friggin game is, I sure as heck wouldnt pull Marky out unless he says he needs a break.

Question is, what kind of sweetener would they cough up.

Well thats the million $ question. No way you trade Rittich for either Ullmark or Hutton straight up. All 3 are UFA at seasons end and the money is nearly the same. Sabres fans are crying for a goalie so I am assuming they have both been shaky.

Five observations from Calgary’s shutout victory over Vancouver:

Falling a bit behind, are we? The Flames have already played their next game.

Yeah I agree 100%. What was the reason Domingue was the back up the other night?

I don’t think there’s any reason to move Ritter unless the deal is crazy. One injury to Marky and the season would be in jeopardy.

Trading Ritter wouldn't be wise in my opinion, he's proven to be good and dependable. The Flames need him incase Markstrom is injured. Lets hope that doesn't happen. He's the first #1 goaltender we've had since Kipper.

Fair/good point but to be frank.... Ritter couldnt hold Kippers or Markys JOCK
If there is a 2nd round pick or better in it for us I'd think hard on a trade.

But I'd still take him over Smith or Talbot (or Koskinen)...

-Any nerves I’ve had about the markstrom signing have quickly been calmed. The guys a stud and I’m optimistic he can play like this for the majority of his contract. Even if there is a decline in play his contract was also signed at over 4% less of the cap than kippers final contract was which wasn’t amazing but not a complete anchor at the end either.

-Rasmus andersson has been the best D on the ice for either team in every game we’ve played. With half of our schedule against eastern teams don’t be surprised if he gets some Norris votes and as well I could see him getting a look in Giordano’s spot on the powerplay if it runs dry.

- Dube looked great on the top line but I don’t think we can drop Mangiapane off that line. Every time that trio was on the ice good things happened.

- Once again leivo didn’t do bad on the Gaudreau line but Simon seems like a better fit

- Nestorov needs to be benched he just looks like a complete liability with and without the puck

Yeah I hear you & Clyde. It's just I see Rittch signing elsewhere this summer & right now the price can be pretty decent. But If we were to take let say Hutton, Buffalo would have to add their 2021 2nd & 2022 2nd. Would that be enough to take the risk, you guys are probably right & better to keep the insurance policy.

I have to agree with the other two guys on this one. When you’re trying to win a cup you assemble the best roster possible even if that means likely losing a guy to free agency in the future.

It doesn’t matter if everything goes right and rittich doesn’t wind up playing much, the only way you move him for a worse goalie is if it’s for someone cheaper to use the cap savings to upgrade somewhere else.

Also considering how he played since the second half of last year the return would likely not be as good as what you want it to be. I’d guess more like Hutton and a 3rd at most which to me isn’t worth it considering rittich’s upside
