Sean by big market, did you mean in terms of hockey interest?

There may have been a smidge of sarcasm in my last statement

The way I see it, Winnipeg became a better team after the trade. They get center depth, better matchup assignments and a player who is better overall. They have enough scoring already to make up for the loss of Laine.

I think Roslovic could become a decent top 6 player that can complement a line and Laine will be the new Nash, good individual stats while the team loses. Hopefully Columbus learns and trades him for as much as possible before it is too late. Sure every team would love to have a player that can score 40+ goals, but there is also a reason why one-dimensional players with great stats always tend to play on losing teams.

PLD wanted to go somewhere that let’s him be himself, more offensive minded then just shot blocking. Columbus has two good upcoming goaltender’s Torts should let the offense take a few more chance’s knowing that they are covered deep in there zone.
Remember Guy Boucher’s defensive game, how did that go.
Defense is a big part of Hockey but not all players are built that way.

Isn't it fair to say that both players will bounce after their contract ends? There is no value long-term, just short-term optics. I feel for both Columbus and Winnipeg that nobody wants to stay. It's an incredibly unfair disadvantage vs other teams they have to compete with.

I see it as Columbus trading a player who wanted out for a great trade chip at next years TDL, Maybe they convince him to stay, although He and Torts don't feel like a match made in heaven (with that in mind maybe this TDL not next) Shame is Columbus is a great stadium with great fans who deserve better but at least they'll get one heck of a goal scorer here for awhile.

Interestingly you say that, and yet mostly every player that has signed a long term deal here wants a full NMC.

Dubois is nice, but I think he’s a bit overhyped..he’s certainly not on same level as Laine.

They want an NTC to determine their own destiny, not necessarily a love for the city.

He’s an RFA. Don’t see how it’s an issue to sign him

In a vacuum I don't think it's a bad deal for either team. Waste of assets to get Stasny in hindsight, though?

That's to a) not be able to be sent to the minors, because if they're sent to the minors, not only are they not in the NHL anymore, they're still in Winterpeg.

And b) have a say in where they are traded to, if they're being traded.

Well according to some people if Winnipeg is such a “horrible” place to play than theoretically anywhere should be better than here. Don’t see why anyone would want a NMC or NTC in that circumstance.

Because even if somewhere else is an automatic upgrade, having a say or straight up choosing where to go is obviously ideal. Especially if the team they go to is good or not.

I understand guys living in the US not wanting to come here on a one year deal, or as a potential rental. Especially when dealing with Visa's for the wife/kids/and pets in some circumstance.

That being said, if a players choice of teams comes down to what extracurricular activities are available, do you even want them signing with your club? I'd say, if golfing during the season is that important, then we don't want you. Winnipeg want's "rink rats". Guys who live for the game, and focus on the game when they aren't at the rink. I do think the Tax is another large factor, and Canada could not be a worse place to play for that reason. It is an unfair advantage that the NHL needs to address. At least allow for a percentage of their cap hit to be retained to offset this issue? I don't really know what other options there are.

Winnipeg and Buffalo lead the list of cities that NHL players dislike playing in the most...by a lot.

7. Which road city do you dread the most?

Winnipeg: 42%
Buffalo: 34%
Edmonton: 10%
Calgary: 4%
Ottawa: 4%
Carolina [Raleigh, N.C.]: 4%
Columbus: 2%

"Winnipeg. It's always cold. Tough rink to play in. It's just dirty -- you walk around the city and feel like you need to wash your face after you go outside. So nothing about it is very exciting."

"Winnipeg is just depressing. You don't even want to leave the hotel to get a cup of coffee."

This seems like you hand picked a couple debbie downer quotes, and stated that players have a harder time playing in sold out arena's where they are boo'd by fans.

This borders on an idiotic statement, and you're clearly trolling. If you have ever traveled, obviously crossing the border, dealing with customs officers, and the longer flight times are all aggravating. Flying Domestic is always easier. That comes into effect. If you don't like the cold, maybe chose a profession that doesn't require your sole job to be what you can do on top of ice.

Lastly, have you seen the guys on the Canadian hockey teams. They fight WAY more often and fans love all physicality. My guess is that the guys who stated these supposed quotes are not ones to like physicality.
