I know it's Detroit and 1 period, but this is the best hockey I've seen this team play in a long time.

We don't need Carpenter. He's a fine player and a solid contributor. Affordable too. I would take draft choice for him, e en a #4 (you won't get a higher pick). Such a move is really more about allowing Highmore into the lineup. And maybe eventually another Rockford kid. Three kids, maybe four forwards assignd to Rockford whom I really hope show well.[url]

Hawks aren't facing the cream of the crop but playing with some confidence right now. That powerplay is the catalyst I think and knowing that Lankinen is playing well behind them.

Hagel doing his job and playing with speed and effort. Looking good in his role and can't forget he has some skill too.

Kurashev is really a good shooter when he can let that wrister go. We keep seeing some good examples.

Suter, driving towards the net and the puck has found him twice and he made no mistake with it. He has some quick hands to finish those.

Mitchell quietly solid but made a few nice plays I noticed. He used his elusiveness to lose the forechecker and reminded me of Campbell a bit. He has a nice pinch down for a chance.

Kubalik is the real deal and I think we are seeing him start to impose himself more on the ice. It's not as dominating as when he has Saad/Toews with him, but he is really starting to get chemistry with his line and when they can get the puck on his stick in shooting areas he will score his share.

Lots of positives in the young guys here and it's good progress here as we are about 3 years into the rebuild/retool. Hope they can start to build on this confidence and play competitive.

I let you know after 2 more periods, but seriously it was nice to see them win 50 50 pucks, dump and retrieve pucks, get sticks in shooting and passing lanes. Only 6 shots on goal.

And the worst defensive mistake was Keith’s pass to no one that Mantha put off the post

Getting their sticks in the way has been really really noticeable at both ends. It's exactly what we see from Arizona when we play them. No easy shots or passes.

Wings try to clear, Hawks get a stick on it. Wings attempting shots...Hawks got a stick on it.

It's a step in the right direction. We've seen the Hawks play like crap against weak teams, so at least they are putting in the effort.

Their puck pursuit and puck retrieval has been awesome today.

I know Lankinen is lost as 6'2" but there's no way he's that tall. He's the same height as Keith next to each other. He looks so small in the net. But he's making saves.

Why he gets near league minimum.

Boqvist not willing to go to the boards, deferring then trying to pin forward,

Much better exits and transition today - forwards in position to get outlet pass and do something with it.

It’s Detroit, so ok...but still....

I've been really impressed with his play, he's so cool and calm in net, doesn't know where the puck is doesn't guess just stays still and calm, it took CC a few seasons to learn this and this kid is already doing it.

Larkin tried to make the same move he did last game and kind of anticipates it and makes a really nice right leg save.

Lankinen with good rebound control through five periods. De Haan should not be given away at TDL, need a nice prospect in return, he’s steady back there.

I notice that a lot of these kids play really well with the puck in tight quarters. This will serve them well going forward since time and space are at a minimum in this league

Sure. I will accept Caufield.
Ha! Angotti too!

I think Vancouver remains a very good team They have a scary offensive scoring line and goaltending remains good. They have depth (?) But really they have played good teams so far, like Montreal i know once.

Well, maybe not Boqvist - who seems to not like getting into tight quarters.

I thought he made a nice play just now to get out of our own zone, but how bad is Mantha on defense yikes
