I thought he made a nice play just now to get out of our own zone, but how bad is Mantha on defense yikes
- BetweenTheDots

Yes, just off the corner - good patience, good pass.

One in a row....

Trade Suter now, his value will never be higher.
- DarthKane

And you were gonna trade him after only 2 goals.

Not to make excuses for the kid but they scrambled his brains last year. Having some ptsd along the boards for now is understandable to me.

Beuhrle pitching for the Hawks: only 2 hours 11 minutes to finish off Detroit - only 40 face offs.

Five of the six Hawk goals were at the net.

Love the kids passing off the boards too himself like Suter on his 3rd goal.

Yes, but - if he’s that gun shy, he’s not ready to come back into the Show.

Kurashev, Suter, maybe Hagel regular shifts entire season so we don't look so thin.

Boqvist and Mitchell together last shift of game. Hmm. Interesting. Just a message of support for playing well to young players. A pat on the back.

Laakinen here to stay.

Wondering if they allow some seating at Billy Goat to watch the game

Comments on today's game.
1) A lot to like about Lankinen. Seems calm and in position.
2) One thing I really liked about Suter. On his third goal he did not pass to Kane. Usually rookies defer to Kane and pass up scoring chances.
3) Zador"oaf" - I think Zadorov is an oaf. Somewhere between Rosival and John Scott. But I think his play and Shaw's play is somewhat contagious. Also I bet everyone on the team likes the fact that, if there is a scrum after the whistle, Zador"oaf" is looking to take on all comers. He has to get better on defense.
4) Kubalik is again not playing with offensively gifted players (like at the start of last season). But he is noticeable for good reasons in all three zones. Looks stronger and more physical than last year.
5) I like the new players going to the net. Janmark, Kurashev, Suter, Hagel.
6) Soderberg looked ok for a 1st game.
7) This was Detroit. So "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Let's see how they play the Preds.

Protected Lankinen nicely - didn’t lose dzone coverage, not many second chances for Detroit.

Much better exits and transition - players in position to get the out pass and do something with it.

Hawks going to the net - 5 of the goals were at the net off of passes or rebounds, IIRC.

A good scrimmage, at least, against a depleted (and not very good in any case) Wings team (altho they did play better against Carolina and TB.

Kubalik is playing with Strome (offensive center) and Kurashev who scored again today.

Apparently the staff is willing to give him a leash to figure out out.

Another note, it's like he put to much weight on in the off season, looks like he's got to do a serious hip torque to start skating, kind of weird

I would still consider this the 2nd line. Played only 12:46 tonight. only 0:59 on PP.

Really having no expectations i really like Hagel Kurashevs games.

I know Shaw can be a meatball, but when he plays within the rules of hockey he is a very solid hockey player. He was great on that PK hopefully he can stay healthy

- BetweenTheDots

Yeah, but he's our meatball! Hoping he can stay healthy too.

Also liking Hagel and Kurashev's game...Suter and Mitchell too. That's 4 rooks that if they can continue trending growth through this season is a huge win for the Hawks.

Playing fine, just miscast as a #1 center. Ideally a middle 6 winger.

Now that the Hawks have some mojo going, it will be interesting to see how they look against a non-Detroit team.

I know they were missing some players but wow, I can’t believe how bad Detroit is at hockey.

It's a step in the right direction. We've seen the Hawks play like crap against weak teams, so at least they are putting in the effort.

I will eat crow today, thought Janmark was solid today. Nice play on Suter’s 2nd goal and went to the net when Kane found him with a beautiful pass. Wanted Wallmark in for him, but kudos to Janmark for playing really well today!!

Like it or not, Stan improved the personnel in the off season.

Goaltender is still a work in progress, but Lankinen has not given up a soft goal yet.

The underlying numbers say this is around a 50% of points team.

They’ve played a very strong team, a very weak team and a middle of the pack team.

The fact that they’re doing as well as they are without their 2 top centers is remarkable.

A few tweaks this off season, and this team can compete for the playoffs next season.

Not if we're trading every player of value for picks and even then I'm far from convinced.
