Hi Ek. What I don't understand with the jackets is why they can't extend their star players. They lost Bobrosky Panarin and now Dubois. I feel they are a decent team and are a few players away from going on a run. Just don't get it. Is it the state or is it the gm or that they have only won one round in there history.

I think it’s management. From the interview PLD did with Ron Maclean it doesn’t sound like it was an issue with Torts. Sounded like the issues surrounded negotiations.

Columbus wins the division.
Caps miss the playoffs.
Vegas miss the playoffs.
Sorokin becomes the #1, wins the Calder, and wins the Vezina this year.
Hoffman doesnt show up to the Blues camp.
Gaudreau gets traded before the season begins.

These are all solid bets. Don't change now!

Pretty bold to say the Jets could finish anywhere from 2-6. So basically you're saying they won't be 1st or 7th. Anywhere else and you've nailed it.

Also, the Canadian division is actually pretty weak in my opinion.

I stand by the blog I wrote in the morning of Jan 13th:

irst things first, like most, I think Ottawa will finish dead last. The Senators have some good young players, but the rebuilding process is not over, not by a long shot. My second pick to miss the playoffs may surprise some of you but I see Edmonton failing to make it. You can have all the firepower in the world but if you can’t keep the puck out of your own net, you just won’t make it. The Oilers have yet to address their need in goal and their blue line just isn’t good enough. Losing Klefbom for the whole season hurts and when the main defenseman you brought in is Tyson Barrie, you’re not improving the defensive side of the game.

Things get tougher after this, I see the remaining 5 teams as fairly close to one another. I’m not sold on Braden Holtby getting it done in Vancouver so I’ll say the Canuck will fall just short of making it. Which means that I see the Canadiens, the Leafs, the Flames and the Jets making it. I believe the Flames are in for a bounce-back season and that the signature of Jacob Markstrom will be key for them. I fully expect the likes of Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau to get back to their elite level and carry this team to the playoffs. Winnipeg could be in for a rocky season with Roslovic and Laine reportedly wanting out, but at least Laine will still play. The fact that they brought Stastny back should help keep Laine happy since he’ll have worthy linemates (Stastny and Connor) and I have no reason to believe that Hellebucyk will stumble.

I agree, the Canadian division is weak and I think the Jets are poised to take it (despite have a poopty coach)! Jets will win the division and should be able to make it out during the playoffs.

I am not blowing smoke, be a homer, or incite controversy. I do believe that due to the factors I mentioned, the Jets will win the Stanley Cup this year and end the Canadian cupless drought.

Pretty bold prediction after only 5 games played.

You won against Ottawa 3 times ... plan the parade!

PS: the Jets are a good team but I'd wait until they play other teams (ie: Tampa, Vegas, etc) before making such a prediction.

How are the Jets going to play Tampa and Vegas when they're in the Canadian division?

So a Jets fan has to wait until the playoffs start to feel good about their team but Habs fans can plan the Cup parade after taking 5 of 6 points against Vancouver? Makes total sense.

No, not at all ... they have a good team.

I'm just saying that predicting a Cup after only 5 games (3 vs Ottawa) is way too early.

Capiche?

EDIT: I never ever predicted the Habs would win the Cup ... get your (frank)ing facts straight.

Agreed. But Habs fans are doing the same thing. Get your facts straight. Habs haven't played Tampa or Vegas either. If it were a Habs fan saying what the Jets fan said (winning the Cup) you'd have no problem with it. Love the hypocrisy.

I just took a look at my atlas to confirm that both Vegas and Tampa Bay were still in the USA. Yup nothing has changed both cities according to my 2020 atlas are still there.

I agree with Garfield... way too early to plan a parade. Dubois would be a great move if he was a defenceman... I like Dubois’s game but their issue is keeping the puck out of their net. The defensive breakdowns and lack of back checking and overall poor team defence is what will leave the Jets out to dry when they play more skilled teams that are not allowed to cross the 49th parallel. They may be one of the better teams in a weak Canadian division and quality for the playoffs and even could come out as #1.
As for Laine, I think he will do well playing on the top line, but he needs a center that can set him up to use that cannon of a shot. If nothing he should score a truck load of goals on the power play. I think people are sleeping on Roslovic, he is a very good skilled center and is super excited to play in his hometown.

It will be interesting to see if either of those guys resign with their new teams. I give Laine a 50-50 chance and Dubois 25-75 that he resigns. If they agree to pay Laine big money and make him the focal point of the team he will make Columbus happy. I don’t think Dubois resigns with Winnipeg. I think he wants big city lights and the Jets are unlikely to shell out the $$ needed to keep him in house.
