Have these players tested positive, or is this following protocols?

Hasn't been announced as far as I've seen, but Blackwood has been in protocol for a while now, then Zajac joined him, then Palmieri. Now a whole bunch more. Safe to say there's at least a few positive tests there.

I think the team is covering it up. Blackwood being in covid protocol for two weeks should tell you enough.

So what is it, if more than 4 people are on the protocol then they lock it down? That’s a recipe for disaster, I’m surprised they played yesterday

"Center Travis Zajac missed Saturday's game after a positive test and forward Kyle Palmieri did not play Sunday after a positive test.

On Monday, Andreas Johnsson, Janne Kuokkanen, Michael McLeod and Pavel Zacha all tested positive. They played in the games over the weekend.

New Jersey now has 10 players on the COVID list, including No. 1 goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood.

Two players on the list, defenceman Sami Vatanen and goaltender Aaron Dell, are isolating after signing with the team."

That is from Sportsnet

Go to work and go home or to the hotel or bus/plane. And their workplace is supposed to be ultra-safe with everyone doing the same thing and exercising precaution. How are so many players on different teams getting Covid? Maybe my family and friends have all had it but we've all just been asymptomatic. One thing may be how people view wearing a mask as the solution because it's visible, so we lack diligence in all the other ways to get Covid- through actual contact..rubbing your eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Most of the time the masks are ineffective because of their construction and how they're worn, it's really quite silly. Then IF the mask prevented Covid, the droplets are on the mask.. so people casually take their masks off, touching them, put them wherever.. and don't wash their hands immediately after.. they can now spread Covid to whatever they touch, including their equipment, eyes, etc. It then lives on whatever surface for varying amounts of time depending on the surface.. that you then touch again a few hours later, the next day, etc.. and presto- Covid's on your hands waiting for you to blow your nose or rub the sweat out of your eyes.

I really don't think it's that hard to not get this thing, it's just that the "Covid culture" has become incredibly casual, uneducated, passive, and dumb.. so it's going to inevitably spread. Yes, you have to be inconvenienced and be kind of crazy and hyper-vigilant. ..sorry? It's a shame because so many people have died or have permanent health issues because of it. Humans are capable of much more than we've shown. laziness and ignorance.

Well family still have to shop for food, kids go to school and daily life. And once someone has it and if they are asymptomatic they will be around their teammates until they have been informed that they came into contact or tested positive

True about the asymptomatic players bringing it in. I assumed players were tested a few times/week regardless of symptoms.
Families don't have to shop for food though.. they can have it delivered. Idk many kids that are physically attending school in central Jersey, but I suppose elsewhere that can happen.. which I think was/is the concern with the kids- that they lack the awareness and precaution to stay Covid-free (not that adults are much better), that parents will safely take off their kid's potential Covid-clothes and take a shower once arriving home, sanitize lunch boxes etc, but yea the kids are an inevitable route for Covid to get in the home.

it's amazing that with how the divisions are looking so far that we could still finish at the bottom of ours and be picking 10th overall.

As the season carries on, this can't continue to happen or they will just jump into another 24 team playoff scenario again. I hope all those on the list are getting through this with minimal issues, but taxi squads exist for a reason, and at some point in time they may have to be calling up half a dozen or so AHL players and let the show go on. It sucks, but I could see this happening to multiple teams in the next week or so, and these teams do have access to perfectly healthy professional hockey players that would love this chance. There would probably be some nice stories of guys who came out of nowhere and made the most of it.

Yeah i agree. I'm almost certain at this point that they wont complete the full schedule. I assume they're going to set a "dead date" where the season will just end when it reaches that day, and they'll just take the top 4 in each division based on points %. Not sure if they will expand the amount of teams in the playoffs but i'd be willing to bet the regular season will end with an uneven amount of games played and they'll be forced to go with points % to decide who's in and who's out again. We wont be the last team this happens to, it'll continue to happen throughout the entire season

The whole point of shutting the team down is that it was spreading probably while players were still testing negative. You have to stop the spread first otherwise those minor leaguers will just get infected. Once we can confirm that the players aren't infected, then we'll be back on the ice. I don't think they will wait for Zacha, Johnsson, etc to get healthy either.

And theres two simple solutions for the games, make them up at the end of the season or just remove some from that division.

The #NJDevils now have 14 players on the NHL's COVID Protocol list: Jesper Bratt, Connor Carrick, Aaron Dell, Jack Hughes, Andreas Johnsson, Janne Kuokkanen, Michael McLeod, Kyle Palmieri, Damon Severson, Ty Smith, Matt Tennyson, Sami Vatanen, Pavel Zacha and Travis Zajac.

So Blackwood comes off the list. But Smith, Hughes, Bratt, Severson, and Tennyson go on. 14 total players now

I’m unable to work remote and have been working the entire time. I’ve been around people pre and current mask laws in close quarters and haven’t gotten it. People I work with have tested positive and no one else in their house tests positive. It doesn’t make any sense. Also this is way worse than the nfl was and they have a lot more personnel compared to a hockey team.
