Carol Schram: The Canucks put on their workboots, snap their losing streak vs. the Flames The Vancouver Canucks found the reset they needed by taking a blue-collar approach to their game-day attire and bringing the same attitude to the ice as they snapped their losing skid with a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

I like the guys putting on the workbooks and getting it done. Nothing fancy, just working hard.

Thanks Carol, it was a good effort, which is what most fans were complaining about during the Mon/Tor skid. I’m not convinced they have “turned a corner” any more than I’m convinced that the Flames are a top 3 team in the division.

Bieksa talked about Edler being a hard hitter, but he also talked about how the team (in general) were too timid to get to the dirty areas.

Other than the Pettersson line, and Hoglander, none of the other forwards had more than a sniff of offence.

Man, that guy hustles every shift. A very pleasant surprise in an otherwise dumpster fire of a season so far.

He still makes plenty of mistakes, but love the effort and you can see the skill waiting to explode.

I view it like reading a rest in music. Once you know it's there, pause and move on to the next note.

I think the most surprising thing about Hoglander for me is that he doesn't shy away from physicality.
I see him go along the boards or in the corners and kinda expect him to back off, but he doesn't.
That and his back hand.

Kid is gonna be a key piece when he puts it all together.

If Benning did change the draft board in 2019 and chose Hoglander and Podkolzin, it's looking like he made a smart play there.

When you combine skill with effort and determination size matters so much less.

I reckon size still matters, but he seems to be able to mix it up a bit and bounces right back up when knocked down.

Must be those Swedish uni cycle skills

It matters. Then again who do you figure comes away with the puck more often, Hogs or JV?
