I like Asplund more than mitts right now. Lol.

That could also be an issue if you start making trades. You might end up with guys you wanna keep! Lol.

- Gr8daygo

For sure. But the question is do you like asplund more then Borgen

Sure but who in that forward grouping really needs protecting? Mitts, Asplund? I think most would be happy if that’s who we lost in all of this
- SDSabre

It's a very fair point, and also depressing.

No. Borgen over asplund.

I want to get to younger and more cost controlled on the backend. I like his grit. I like the limited time with Dahlin.

I’m putting Dahlin-Borgen back together as soon as possible. The goal would be for them to be the new Talllinder/Lyudman (spelling) ... pair.

Might not work, but I’m penciling that in moving forward.

Dahlin. Borgen.
?......? Risto
Bryson. Joker.

That’s my 2021/2022 opening night start.

Maybe you consider McCabe if he’s cheap enough. Coming off that knee, you better have a back up... and I know there is Samuelson, Johnson, and laakason coming up too...

That's the easy part. Point is, Borgen would have to be protected.
- Lunaion

Does Borgen get protected over montour?

Dahlin
Joker
Risto
Borgen
Montour

What's the protection order?

Montour is a UFA. Could be protected I guess, but prolly Borgen

Right, I think Montour is out of here. Another costly mistake.

Right, and he didn’t have to sign there. I think it’s just they got the period before the new league year to convince him into it
- SDSabre

Correct, he did not have to sign there, but it's where he lives, that's why they picked him. And they still burned their CGY pick on him when he wanted to sign in Las Vegas anyway. It was a curious pick to say the least.

Montour looked good so far this season.

Guhle and a 1st?

Maybe we can get a 2nd ish at the deadline?

The way things are playing out, they may not be able to trade a healthy dman.

Mitts is relatively useless, playing better, but even so he is just not good enough.
His skating is way below average and limits his instincts...he just can't get there fast enough. Last game he was knocked off his skates 3 -4 times. Combined with substandard strength, both of which require a dedicated commitment to improve. To date, I'd say that is severely lacking.

If any other team were somewhat interested, I'd move him quickly.
He is squarely in the trade crosshairs, IMO.

- IonSabres

Besides Petterson & i guess Hischier,
that draft class for forwards has been pretty weak

Being signed or not is irrelevant. The Knights picked Engelland, who was UFA, from the Flames.
- Wetbandit1

Not totally true
Vegas got a few days window to try to sign UFA players from each team- if they wanted to- instead of choosing a signed & unprotected guy

If Seattle was able to sign one of our UFAs, like Montour for example- they they would no longer be eligible to choose one of our players in the expansion draft

Wish we got to see more than 4 games of Borgen before making that decision. It's a tough call.
- Lunaion

Why is it a tough call? Who on the defense is really a troubling loss other than Dahlin of those who would be exposed?

Seems a no-brainer to protect Dahlin, Jokiharju, and Borgen as the 3 so you can protect 3 extra forwards.

Let Seattle choose one of the array of defensemen, no matter who it is, and move on.

Use the defensive depth of the Sabres to your advantage here.

Have not seen the game yet. I'm going to watch the replay this AM. I'm very surprised Skinner was benched again, but from the stat sheet it appears to have not made a huge difference. Let's all hope it shakes loose whatever is making Skinner hit posts instead of score goals because he's going to be a Sabre for a long time.

Still doesn't change the fact that the Sabres are the worst organization in professional sports.

You know.... I am well aware of my negativity towards the Sabres but consider this.... For 10 years all we have read on here is that this guy has great potential... that guy has great potential..... If we just trade for this guy or that guy... give this guy a chance he is young....If the coach just changes lines around.... If we just draft this guy or that guy.....I actually agree that the Sabres have had many players with "potential" and in fact have had some teams that could have been better..... The reality is that it is up to the ORGANIZATION to have the pieces in place to draw that "potential" out of each player. The Sabres have clearly failed in all areas when comes to developing and bring out the talent in most of their players. IMO their problems still start at the very top where MS. Pegula sits. She has absolutely no business being there. And since excellence is drawn from the top down it is clear the Sabres will continue to be an awful professional organization until that situation is changed...

What is, the exact reason the Sabres suck for $1000...

She’s great developer of the real estate, get her away from the hockey.

It is not my nature to ever assume I know more about pro sports than the people that have been involved in it for their entire adult lives. My biggest pet peeve is always accountants and truck drivers that think THEY know how to run the power play better that Phil Housley. however...

This morning on ESPN radio, that toolbag Keyshawn said: "I don't think the Patriots should draft a QB in the first round. SO many of the QBs taken there just bust. Sure you have a star or two, but the league is made up of 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks."

PLEASE LISTEN TO HIM N.E.!!! PLEASE!!!

Brady (unicorn), Wilson, Dak

Mahommes, Allen, Ryan, Rodgers, Big Ben, Herbert, Watson, Jackson, Stafford, Murray, Mayfield, Tannehill.

That's not even counting Rivers, Manning, Manning, Newton (for a while).

I cant believe they let that gasbag talk.

Guess it all comes down to if you think you are gonna try and extend him. If Ralph is still here, could make it weird, especially like 89 said, if Joker is in the doghouse does he expose Joker and protect Risto.

Nope. He's got one year left on his deal and I'd be petrified of extending him at big money for a long term with how many minutes he's accumulated.

I'd also call Seattle's bluff on them actually picking him.

Ryan Jones and Laaksonen have been playing well down in Rochester, Samuelsson has looked good, definitely improved his skating. Gonna be interesting over the next few years with there Dcorps and Johnson hasn't even hit the system yet.

That’s a good problem to have if we ever get a gm that actually will want to trade a d man and not just collect them.

What you outlined in bold above is how a team consistently makes poor decisions and never becomes good. Why continue the cycle that's been going on for more than a decade for the Sabres?

The above is exactly why you protect Dahlin, Jokiharju, and Borgen as your 3 D in the expansion draft.
