The above is exactly why you protect Dahlin, Jokiharju, and Borgen as your 3 D in the expansion draft.
- kingcong39

I agree, just don't trust Ralph and Adams to do that, especially if Joker is in the doghouse might expose him instead of Risto.
Edit: Didn't see that other post 39. But the Sabres organization fits that description.

Hoping Samuelsson keeps improving, you think Risto hits. Think Jay McKee just bigger.

Wonder if Pittsburgh might come a calling, they lost Zucker and Letang last night to injury.

Don't know how bad Letang's injury is, but was thinking more Staal and Miller or Montour. But that affects the expansion draft to though.

I didn't see this before, but looks like Andy Reids son could be in some trouble. He was drinking before that accident that hurt that 5yr old.

Could be strike 3 for him, already spent a few years in jail for selling drugs and another accident.

Risto?
- Powerslave

So, Risto does present a challenge.
He has improved significantly under Smith/Krueger..probably Krueger moreso in that Smith was here already for 2 yrs I believe and the change did not occur until Krueger arrived.

He still isn't a 1st pairing IMO, and will be a UFA after next season...so, what will be his cost be for renewal? He may price himself out here. Do you
-risk losing him to Seattle for nothing in return?
-protect him and trade him at next TDL as a rental?
-protect him and resign him next season?

Sabres will have a bunch of UFA's they may be able to choose instead
Hall, Staal, Reider, Sheahan, Montour, Irwin, Ullmark, Hutton.

I think it is true that they can select any of those UFA's during their UFA window (it counts as their Draft pick) even if Sabres Protect them in the Expansion Draft.
Not 100% sure there though...maybe Luanion knows better

Nope. He's got one year left on his deal and I'd be petrified of extending him at big money for a long term with how many minutes he's accumulated.

I'd also call Seattle's bluff on them actually picking him.

- kingcong39

I'd bet the house that they protect him. Ralph loves him.

Really don't know, has he played his last game for the Sabres, very hard to move him, especially in season. Lot of money sitting in the press box.

So, when does the Trade requests become public...and, do they go over/under last seasons 3 (Erod, Bogo, Miller, although I'm not sure if Millers went public or just strong rumors)

I can't imagine them being able to move him before the offseason. There would have to be a very bad contract(s) coming back in return. That feels more like an offseason move.

Agree, think it's gonna be tough even in the offseason. Can they retain money for a certain amount of years if they traded him or does it have to be for the rest of the contract. Cause his actual money starts going down in a few years.
