He doesn't, tell me when he's dropped the gloves after a poopty hit on anyone. Yes he hits which helps.

Fighting is wayyyyy down... Not the same game anymore. You get back at guys by hitting them harder than they hit you.

Of course they count. This isn’t hard to figure out

You do not get enough PP’s throughout the year to have it be your main sustainable way of scoring goals and winning games. You just don’t.

You NEED to consistently score at EV

You need your PP to be good situationally and chip in occasionally

- sbroads24

You need to consistently win the goal differential battle at 5v5 yes but you cannot have terrible special teams.

We just watched the Sabres last year miss the playoffs because of the 28th ranked PK.

If last years PK ranked top 10-12 not only do they make a 24 team playoff they very well make the playoffs in an ordinary year.

I agree, usually if you have the firepower to consistently score goals at EV then you probably will do just fine on the PP.

There's just no way mathematically it's as important as EV production.

Would you rather have the number 1 pk and the worst pp or vis versa?

77-78 Canadians had a 31.9% success rate on the PP for the best ever and they won the cup sooooo I think it matters

All depends on if I take more penalties or draw more I guess.

Special teams are always going to be pretty inconsistent and go through hot and cold streaks. we see it every year

The PP will go 0-9 over three games and then go 5-10 the next three

Just don't worry about them and try and be the best 5 on 5 team you can be and a majority of the time you will come out on top.

If you can game plan to be strong defensively and score 2 EV goals per game, you will score enough PP goals to win a lot of games.

When you're the Sabres and have 15 5 on 5 goals through 13 games you're rarely going to win unless it's one of those every 4 or 5 games that you get 3 PP goals on 5-6 attempts, and that's never, ever sustainable

Sure but the common denominator is goal differential.

If they score at will at even strength but give up just as much goals against we’re stuck in the same poop sandwich.

Ralph is trying desperately for us to play like the Stars and the Isles as his system dictates shot suppression and a puck possession game.

I don’t think it’s saying a lot of the PP to get one goal a game on 3-5 opportunities.

Ok, so that's stopped anyone from taking liberties on Sabres players. Yes he hits, and I like that, but that hasn't stopped anyone from rag dulling any Sabre they want.

It's common sense really. If you have an average PP and PK, it's nets to 0.

Anyone confident our special teams will be > 0 at the end of the season?

The Sabres are doing a very admirable job at the moment of not taking too many penalties. And when they have they have killed them at an above average rate.

The Sabres schematically play to win the 3-2 hockey game. We need our top players to stop having the worst stretch of luck I’ve ever seen and Ullmark/Hutton to not let in a beach ball or 2 every game

So Dahlin getting hit in the head and face, Staal taking a shot to the head, Eichel taking a few ? hits, just to name a few, he doesn't stand up for his teammates, he doesn't have to drop the gloves every time but answer the bell once or twice and maybe liberties taken won't happen so much and certain players might play with more jump and confidence maybe even a little more grit themselves cause they know someone has there back.
