To be fair he's probably doing us a favor taking us off the powerplay. Didn't have to make it 4 though.

If they can kill this off I at least like our chances of getting 1 point tonight now.

I think we're in the middle of Zacha's annual 5 game all-star stretch.

Zacha has a 4 game point streak was not something I was expecting to hear tonight.

There’s Marchand scumbagging it. I’d forgive Wood if he went McSorley on him.

Some prospect news:

Good news is Mercer has a hatty tonight!

The not so good news, Shakir Mukhamadullin is likely to miss the rest of the season with an injury

It was definitely a beaut. I think this was our best game in terms of limiting the dumb poop when we're closing the game out, unlucky that Smith took the late penalty though.

Interesting numbers. We're currently 11th in W%, 2nd worse in GF and 2nd best in GA.. yes I know 5 games played less than half the league. Still.. we keep waiting for the Devils to come back to earth. They have TWICE as many wins as regulation losses with 2 OT losses. Maybe the break was beneficial to give their legs a rest. This will of course mean they tire out later as they're playing 5 games in 7 nights for a month lol.. but I'm not ruling out the league doing what it did at the end of last year- not bothering with all the makeup games and going off win %.

It seems a safe bet that we're not getting a top 10 pick, but could be between 15-11.. so maybe we (mostly speaking to myself) should be rooting for wins and forget about the pick? I still think we need 1 more stud prospect, primarily on defense.. however, maybe we could trade a forward for D.
We'll see how the kids look next year and the following- if everyone develops as expected, we could actually have an over abundance of top 9 forwards. Top 3 centers are already established. Holtz, Bratt, Mercer, Foote, Sharangovich, Kuokkanen.. there's your wingers for the top 3 lines, and they don't even include Johnsson, Wood, and of course the collection of Merkley, Boqvist, Maltsev, Bastian. .. or Gusev/Palmieri.. we could potentially have 14 NHL level wingers to work with next season. 6 of them won't be in the lineup. And then what happens with Zajac? McLeod may also have to shift to wing.. making it 15 wingers if Zacha stays at center.
It's going to be very very interesting.

Nice win for the boys! So far looks like Ruff was the right choice for coach, he's got these guys playing some good hockey. Gonna be interesting to see how he juggles players and lines when we are fully healthy. Season is going to get tougher no doubt but hey let's enjoy the winning while it lasts!

I remember when we hired ruff there wasn't too much excitement about it but he is doing a great job so far

5 out of 6 points from Boston, a team that we struggle against, not too shabby at all.

There hasn't been a game where you felt the devil's were out of it, and they are doing it with mainly young guys

The defense hasn't been a dumpster fire
Jack is showing big strides
Only will get better with Nico

Yes the goalies have covered holes

The only concern I have is special teams
The PP doesn't seem to create much, Boston had more chances short handed then we had on the PP

And let's not mention the PK

Good thing is they appear to be cutting down to stupid penalties lately

Nice writeup Roger.
Devils looking good so far.

I think a big part of our success is how much competition we have up front. Everyone is playing like their job is on the line and its really helped keep the intensity high at all times, and credit to Ruff for that. The special teams is terrible but hopefully that is more of an X's and O's thing than a talent thing.

This probably isn’t fair but when you watch how good the Devils are playing now it makes me more frustrated we kept with Hynes so long. I remember when Ray Ray extended him, I was not happy. And it’s not just the winning. It’s fun Hockey again. Winning helps. Not saying it doesn’t. Just you see great plays every game and skills. I’ve missed offensive zone time so much and am glad all our shots aren’t from the perimeter...

Butcher has not looked bad. Still physically lacking but I don’t think he’s looked any slower then Tennyson and he’s made some good plays. I want to see a couple more games with him in the lineup. Glad to have Vats back.

Thank the lord lol.

Lines from warmups:
Johnsson-Hughes-Bratt
Sharangovich-Maltsev-Palms
Wood-McLeod-Bastian
Kuok-Zacha-Merkley

Smith-Severson
Butcher-Subban
Kulikov-Vatanen

Vats > P.K..... I mean how was P.K. arguing a blatant high-stick that drew plenty of blood?

Anyway, my takeaway from that game was:

Maltsev looked great. Noticed him every shift and along with Sharo, brought tons of speed.

Smith was fighting the puck, but still looks great

Blackwood stole another

Hughes is really starting to look like Scheifele out there. A guy who is elite (top 10c in my books), yet doesn't have any major physical attributes that jump out at you. His ability to draw guys into his area, then make a quick chip pass to the open man, his ability to strip guys in tight, his overall poise and board work...... If you get a chance to watch Scheifs one of these nights, do it. Great game from a kid who's expectations were drastically lowered. Now with last seasons top 2 c's out of the lineup, the kid has made massive strides in taking that 1c role and running with it.

Ruff appears to have all these guys working their tails off. Boston was not able to slow the game down like usual, and Devs kept working like badgers. The Bruins were not able to look like the 10-2 team that they were, and this coaching structure, along with another stellar Blackwood performance made all the difference. Well played 60 minutes for the Devs. Plus who doesn't love a chippy game?

PK has been pretty effective this year and you can see that he isn't trying to force things like he did last year. Ruff has him playing a more simplified game and it's working

Is he worth his contract no but he isn't a disaster this year.

Just that Murray is probably back, and Butcher has played well so far. So we have 7 D flat out better than him. Not a surprise hes the guy gone to open up a roster spot
