Remember when Boyd went on the record wanting the Caps to win the Cup because he was rooting for Ovi and Trotz? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Soft ass dude. |

Nah. I’m indifferent on 95% of the league but I certainly hated the avs from that time period. |

So i found it. It’s an Athletic article from ‘18. The optimal times are 6 minutes left if down 1, 12 if down 2, half way through the second period if down 4, and immediately if down 5 or more. And I mixed up the player reactions. Anders Lee was the one that was hard against it, Auston Matthews was so so, and Giroux was all for it. If you have a sub:

Thanks for the info but I still don't buy it haha. I don't have a sub nor the desire to dive into the methodology (if it is revealed) but I'm guessing there is a fatal flaw in the logic, maybe some serious extrapolating going on. I think a lot more teams would try it if it was even close or debatable.
However, I could see scenarios like being down 3-4 goals with 30 seconds left in the 2nd and a faceoff in the offensive zone or something like that. I've always thought more teams should pull the goalie with 5 or so seconds or less in the first or second period and a faceoff in the offensive zone regardless of the score. But then that contradicts my earlier statement about 6v5 being not that much of an advantage haha. |

Yea I remember, I was just enjoying good hockey. I will say this and give Boys this... I hate watching hall of fame players jump around at the end of their career trying to win and never getting it(Iginla, possibly Thornton and Marleau) so I was definitely ok with Ovi getting a cup. He deserves it and is an amazing talent. Hate when playing against him though haha. |

I was rooting for Ovi over the team coached by a mouth breather health bombing Tatar. |

It’s definitely a scenario where the nerds take things way too far. People (or players in this example) are not abstract emotionless beings. |

Haha well you shouldn’t have to worry about him winning another one. Caps have handled asset management about as well as the pens. |

The fatal flaw is that it’s impossible to get players to buy in. The human component is completely ignored. Way more players like Anders Lee than Claude Giroux. Everyone wants to believe that the tying goal is coming on their next shift and that it’s not worth the risk of getting blown out. |

It’s good for the sport that Ovi got a Cup. I wasn’t upset it happened but I sure as (frank) wasn’t rooting for the Caps, especially when MAF was on the other side. |

Yea thinking about it now, I was more on the Knights side. But didn't really care that much haha. Now if we're talking Flyers, hell (frank)ing no. I was a Hawks fan all day in 2010 finals. |

Yea that sucks for you. I (frank)ing can't stand Toews. Most overrated, overpaid player in the league. Solid player, no where near worth that contract. |

Going to ND, the handful of years of Toews circle jerk was definitely annoying, but tough to care about that when five years later Sid got two more Cups, two Conn Smythes, a well deserved reputation as a premier two way player, and Toews became an awful contract. I don’t even mock my Hawks friends since it was just so obvious I was right. No point. |

Even if 100% of the players bought in 100% of the time, I still don't think the risk/reward works out. How many 6v5 goals are scored vs. EN goals? How many tying goals are scored at 5v5 with 6 minutes or less? The way the refs call the game based on the score is even more reason not to take what I deem unnecessary risks. |

Yea it was insanely annoying how Hawks fans could even fathom Toews was better than Sid. (frank), Toews isn't even the best player on his team. |

Yea I agree pulling a goalie at those insane times is crazy. poop can definitely happen between halfway through a game to the last few minutes of game. |

At least he seems like a decent person. I can't stand Kane from that team. I laughed pretty hard when Franzen took his mouthguard and threw it across the ice. Right in front of the ref IIRC but no penalty because the ref was like, "Yeah, he deserves it." |
