They should be able to help the club in a year or 2. They both seem to make plays all over the ice and can score clutch goals. They both standout whenever they are on the ice. Even though they don't help today or tomorrow doesn't mean you trade them away. Plus Hextall is a GM who likes to build up his prospects/youth not give them away.

We should probably try them out then. Neither are untouchable to me though if a really good player is coming this way. Poulin-McCann-Legare can't be worse than whatever the (frank) is out there now. These guys aren't Burke's long pants hockey guys but they aren't exactly wearing Daisy Dukes here lol

I think a shrewd move would be to send Dumo to the Jets for a prospect like Dylan Samberg. Let's clear some cap space and get a high upside, near ready prospect.

Then if Matheson stays solid and POJ still looks legit, Petterson becomes expendable with Samberg ready to step in (a year orvtwo down the road).

I agree that they should have had a shot with the big club. Idk if it is because they were Junior hockey eligible or if it had something to do with Sullivan not giving them a shot. They should end up being solid players in the future.

Well Hextall and Burke said they are all in this year and then will re-evaluate. So I don't see this kind of trade happening with one of our LD.

They both looked like crap in the mini training camp. But I doubt they were playing at all beforehand. It would be nice if we could try them now.

Camp was so short. They would have really needed to stand out to stick. I don't think either did so they sent them back.

Their schedule only goes till match 7th from what I saw so maybe they are done then? Or maybe they just left it open ended I suppose. They can be brought to the taxi squad without any issues so if they aren’t playing after March 7 is def bring them up and see.

Interesting... I had no idea. They should definitely bring them up to practice with the club.

I was just looking this up, and (if I have this right) because their season paused, they now play until late June and that's just the regular season with all teams making the playoffs. So don't think we can see them this year. Next year they'll be pros so much more likely to see them at some point since it's AHL or Pens.

I don't think they're all in like GMJR was. In fact I heard Hextall say on Madden's show the prospect pool is shallow and they need to build it and they will. I have interpreted their message just as they are trying to win this year, not push all their chips in again.

Having Poulin and Legare potentially playing with the big club is another reason I hope we sign Getzlaf as our 3rd line center. Having a veteran working and teaching the young guys will go a long way for the future.

But we shouldn't be trading Petts or Dumo for a 4c. We also don't necessarily need a 4c. I'd be happy bringing in say Palmeri and put Kap on a wing with McCann.
- 668710

I agree, I'm not sure we need a C, especially if Blueger continues to perform at 3C level. Jankowski may be failing but their are other options. McCann or Rodriques could fill that role as 4C. I didn't realize when people mentioned a couple days ago Bellerieve that he got called up to the taxi squad. He apparently had access to a gym and rink and used the pause to get noticeably faster and stronger so maybe he does get a shot.

I do think we'll need to add a forward, but a LD for forward hockey trade or cheaper rental seem like more likely routes if Hextall is serious about building prospect depth, and with his history he probably is.

Can we use the 9 game tryout? Or is that not even possible because of the rules?

Yea that's what I'm thinking, more of a hockey trade type deal with most likely Petts. But I wouldn't be against a Dumo move either.

Although it may not be what Hextall would do, but I'd check out what the Preds would take for Forsberg because I think that would be the type of player that would keep us a contender for this and next season. Then Geno and Letang deals are up as well as Forsberg and you go from there.

The Bruins are going to be tough to beat this year. They play so well and hard - offense, defense, goaltending. Their forecheck is incredible too. Seems like a complete team with not a lot of weaknesses.

I'd imagine other teams could beat any offer we'd make for Forsberg. Almost no prospects and a more conservative GM then Rutherford so I'm not expecting us to be going after the big fish again. JMO.

Pretty sure the tryout has to be at the start of the season unless the rules were somehow amended this year. Once they're on their junior team, they can't be recalled.

Ahh yes, it's coming to me now. It would have to be some crazy emergency call up because of a lot of injuries I believe. So hopefully that doesn't happen.

Ok gotcha. I'm sort of coming out of going all-in myself. For one I just don't really believe they can prop open the window much longer without adding a 1D and top 2C as Letang and Malkin continue to decline.

Secondly, I like Poulin and if you are extending your window you need a guy like him with a 3 year entry deal more than another expensive vet. Sort of the same with Legare, or at least I feel his lottery ticket potential is worth more than his trade value which isn't that high because he doesn't make top prospect lists.
