I concur! I would give up Mantha for a very good LD. And I mean defensively first!

Jeeze….Mantha being traded, even in supposition, makes me wanna barf. He's good, H. We know what his potential is, and I know that we've been saying that since his arrival.....but what if it's not necessarily the player, but the system? Yes, good players adapt, BUT don't coaches refine their systems to reflect the talent on-hand?

I'm just not sold on this move. What is the end-game? If it's to finish outside of the bottom 5 and draft well (assuming the ping-pong balls fall our way.....we've seen how that works for us...), I think that's misplaced; if it's to make the SC play-offs; that's misplaced. If it's to make a splash; that's misplaced. ANY move for Mantha has to have a LONG TERM impact, and right now I don't see anything out there that would fill our needs and justify the move.

Franz cleared waivers....
Anyone surprised?

Hoping that's the shot across the bow that serious moves are being planned, and serious change is afoot...… Frans was good in his day, but his day passed before he was signed and started wearing the Wheel. Now, he's merely a good mentor (at best), and fills a slot. Heck, when was the last time he took a shoot-out shot? He was dang good in the shoot-out, but we seldom even get to that point anymore.

I'm hoping that this move is a signal that the younger kids are going to get some ice time. Bring up Svech, see what he's got. If nothing else, he starts showing a bit of improvement and gains some trade attention. Same with Cholo. I seriously want to see Lindstrom & Smith.... I keep saying it: We ain't gonna make the SC play-offs so start giving kids some shots before the European seasons end and we start getting those guys back.... May be the right thing, may not be. But we don't know what we have unless we play the talent & assess.

It’s time to accept Mantha is a 26 year old that has never hit 50 points or scored more than 25 goals in a season. I like him but moving him for a younger player at a position that is more of an organizational need makes a ton of sense.

#RedWings Steve Yzerman, speaking on a Detroit Economic Club virtual event, said 2020 top pick Lucas Raymond expected to have procedure on arm/elbow that will idle him 8 weeks, not a concern long-term. Moritz Seider (bruised shoulder) has returned, having 'great year' in Sweden.

I don't wanna!!

You, and others, may be correct in this, Feds. The thing I hate is that he's still got some serviceability & production left in him, given a more comprehensive coaching scheme and group. However, if he's traded now, he could fetch a better return. Makes sense, but damn how I hate admitting that. I really like the Big Frenchman, and know that he can bring the mail for several more years despite the lackluster performance of the past.....

Well ain't that just great!!!!

Always a danger in kids being injured, but dang how I would've liked to have seen him come up for a quick drink in the bigs to see how he would fare against the big boys

I mean obviously if there isn’t a trade that makes absolute long term sense for the team, you keep him.

Fair enough. I'm just not totally sold that he needs to be moved. I'd say, and have said, it'd have to be a trade that absolutely blew the doors off. I'd not realized that he was 26 already. That's kind of a Prime age for players, so will be interested to see what transpires over the next year+. Between you & H2, I might be convinced....

Oh you’re absolutely right. He doesn’t have to be moved. But in terms of assets we have to part with he makes the most sense in terms of getting a piece back that will help the 2023-2028 wings the most.
