He was a giveway machine the last game he played. I just would like to see Galchenyuk play with some talented players on the Leafs. He's better then Petan even as bad as he has been. - Archaic
I'm not going to argue. Petan's last game was not pretty. I also think that this is a good game to give Galchenyuk a shot given the two LW absences on the top 2 lines. |

He had a week-long trip to Fort Lauderdale booked with buddies - golf, drinking, coke.
He asked if he could still go on the trip and then report to the Leafs afterwards. - Atomic Wedgie
Should be very sharp for his first game.

I don't know a lot about Galchenyuk, but I've been led to believe that his big problem is sub-par skating.
So I don't really think he's going to be a great fit on our top two lines. |

I doubt he will in the long-term, or even the medium-term. But given that he is potentially being a shot with a dynamically offensive team, and that describes his game . . . and for tonight, we have:
LW - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
LW - Engvall - Mikheyev
Vesey - Spezza - Boyd
Where you slot in Barabanov (4th line LW, likely moving Vesey up) and Petan.
I mean, if you went with:
Galchenyuk - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Vesey - Engvall - Mikheyev
Petan - Spezza - Boyd
. . .and witnessed Galchenyuk crap the bed, you could feel you were really giving him a shot. If nothing else, he's arguably a better insertion than Barabanov or Petan.

So if Dermzy takes Muzzy's spot, does Lehty take the bottom pairing LD spot? |

Get Galchy some quality time with Barb before putting him on the top line.

I don't so much want to reward him, because I get the suggestion that's being made here, inasmuch as injuries to Hyman and Thornton change the top-6 LW depth. We could plop Mikheyev in there or Engvall in there, but they haven't necessarily fared well in these roles in the past. They've earned the opportunity more, I'll grant. I'm just basing it on Galchenyuk's past successes where he had success with other players who did the heavy lifting for him. |

I get wanting to get him
accustomed the the system and getting him to start on the right track for his skating before you play him.
He’s bounced around the league like crazy, don’t make the same mistakes other teams have. Do this right and only right. |
