McDavid won't have a chance against those tough to play against signings.

I thought I would be more impressed with Darnell Nurse.

dude is pretty damn average, and even that is being generous.

When you watch him night in and out, he's just a plus player. Is a positive at both ends of the rink in all situations. Not much more you can ask from a Dman.

They don't need him to drive the play, they have the best hockey player in the world.

LOL

I’ve spent years reading and laughing your brilliant insights.

The fact is that they ARE part of the Oilers.

It’s not the Oilers AND Connor/Leon.

One is indisputably the Best Player on the Planet. The other lead the NHL in points LY.

They are paid commensurately.

Consequently, their GM is forced to supplement the Team with lessor, more economical talent options. Yes, the drop off in talent may be amplified but that is the result of the Salary Cap and not the Team itself.

I know it’s hard to understand.

F ucking idiot.

You can’t read, all I said is that the team isn’t deep enough. If you want be a (frank) tard homer and pretend it’s not true then go ahead

Meh I dont see it

He's usually taking a stupid minor penalty, and thats probably why he always leads them in minors by a lot for the past few season.

very underwhelming player.

No.

You are indignant as you are hopeless.

Aside from the fact that they are missing their best defenceman in Klefbom. They’ve also lost Bear, Lagesson and Koekoek to injury and are still competing well on game by game basis.

Additionally, the Oilers Forwards not including McDavid and Drai had more combined points then the Maple Leafs not including Matthews or Marner as of the 20 game mark.

Seems to me that they’re doing quite fine thus far.

My point was this...

They have to pay both what they are worth and thus cannot afford other large contracts of presumably commensurate talent. This isn’t a difficult concept.

The franchise isn’t inept or constructed poorly. They are very lucky to have two players of incredible talent. That is both a blessing and a curse.

So I’ll pose you the question seeing that you have long flaunted your superior intellect on these boards... just how would you construct a deeper Oilers Roster with the limitations imposed by the salary cap?

He takes a minor every 2-3 games?

I don't find that outlandish for a Dman that plays 25+minutes a night. He also scores a point right now 3/4 nights.......I'd say that's pretty good.

I would like to have a player of Nurses quality on the Canucks, he would be by far the teams #1 defenseman.

I guess the question becomes if you'd trade Hughes, Petey, Bo, Miller and Boeser for McDavid, Leon and Nurse.

I think if you add RNH it's a no brainer but he's a UFA at the end of the year if i'm not mistaken.

It's hard to call the Oil top-heavy without saying the same about us.

I mean we have LE, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, JV who's contracts far exceed their value as players.

We haven't even started with the back end.

He literally leads the league in PIMs, pretending he doesn’t take bad penalties is a bit of a joke. He’s decently offensive, but spends a lot of time out of position defensively as he was on both his penalties tonight yet again

Meh

Still unimpressed watching him
Pretend tough guy that skates average and has the advantage of having 2 of the best players in the league to hand it off and to.

Which league? He's top 15 but only Forbort and Edler play over 20 minutes a night.
Nurse plays 25+ minutes a night.

I don't want to give the guy an 8 year deal or anything but I think he's currently a better all-round Dman than we have on our roster.

Anyways, if you look a little deeper he's tied for 175th for penalty% when compared to minutes played. He's hardly leading the league.

Who are you referring to here. I don't think anyone had 2 penalties in this game. I thought the discussion was about Nurse, he didn't take any penalties IIRC

Myers & Chariot also go over 20 minutes a night.

My point stands though as I think he's far tougher than any Dman we have....as do you.

If anyone wants to make an argument that Hughes is better that's fine, he's far more dynamic. At his best he certainly can dominate a game more. However, Nurse is capable impacting a game in many different ways.

Maybe he's talking Myers? He only had the one but he actually does lead the league in PIM's
