Yea he took a really stupid penalty, but he's been much better in this game then the game vs the Canes

He does struggle defensively but to me it's Mitchell and Murphy this game, going against Laine and Murphy has lost his lane on the PK, twice

Where Laine shot from is not on Murphy, it is on the top side forward that should be shading towards him and either, impedes the passing lane or hassles the shooter. The wings are the forwards responsibility on the PK

It is early. I was hoping the Hawks would take Noah Dobson or Evan Bouchard that year as I just wasn't sold on Boqvist. Time will tell.

Just saw both replays, first one good play by Columbus (they have nhl quality players too) Laine one times it, Murphy started to come out but no way he could get anywhere close to him.

Second one, Carpenter was all the way on the right side, with Kampf in the middle, Eddie knows more in his little finger than I will ever know, but to me that is on Carpenter.

If I were Laine I’d love that. I’d skate everywhere getting the defender to chase opening up his side of the ice for a great scoring chance from someone else. With a PK box you can’t break it down and have one player playing man to man. The key is to be aware of him and try to protect the passing lane to him to prevent the puck from getting to him.

I understand but how don't they slant the coverage to Laine side? You saw it on a pk sequence with Z and whoever the forward was and both the defender and forward collapsed and amazingly Laine or BJs didn't score

With a PK box aka “zone defense” it’s not about individual coverage, it’s about preventing the puck from getting to the open sniper cleanly. If the defending team can’t prevent the pass from going across to the sniper, they have to get a stick on it to disrupt the one timer.
