Theo Fox: Game 20: Hawks 6, CBJ 5
A recap of another proverbial shootout between the Blackhawks and Blue Jackets with DeBrincat winning it in the actual shootout.

Plus, a recap of the IceHogs first win of the season after starting 0-5-1.

Theo thank you for pumping out daily blogs. Man do you ever sleep?. I'm glad this team won last night but it does feel like a loss of sorts. This team can't be giving up leads in the 3rd period. Have to keep the foot on the pedal and finish strong I hate 3 point games.

Oh yeah First....

Nice to see how it’s bury one like that. One timer, textbook top cheddar.

But man that skating. How was his skating rated in his scouting report? It’s tough to watch at times.

Theo,

Have you seen anything about Niklas Nordgren, who was drafted after Boqvist. He is 5-9" 170 when drafted. Reportedly a talented wing who gets injured often. I Iooked at one prospect review a moment ago just to see a quick review. It said he is a boom or bust prospect.

Loved Kane’s presser. Great to win, but not satisfied with giving up leads. Great lesson for the kids.

I know that he has been injured a lot lately. Last couple of years have been rough on him. He missed almost 10 month from spring 2019. This season has played only 2 games with Hifk and was loaned to Pelicans in FEL and played there yesterday his first game in 5-4 SO win. Had his first points of the season (0+2).

As yucky as it was defensively another victory morning. Not getting much help Lanky still able to get the victory, impressive, so is Kane, he is playing great.

Fun to watch...frustrating to watch. Love the team speed. Love the forechecking and offensive zone pressure. The team defence can give you the shivers. But, this is what you get with half or more of the team rookies and under 25 players. It's a growing process. But, definitely miles more fun to watch than last year!

And a shout out to the refs, Savard initially not being called for a penalty but taking some liberties on Kane, Kane hacks him out of frustration they send them both to the sin bin. I can at least appreciate that, instead of the call going against Kane while Savard was being a poop head.

Just pure speculation on my part, but could part of Boqvist’s problem in terms of skating and being a little awkward be to the new muscle and weight he put on in his strength and conditioning program. It might be the first time in his career he has played with more muscle mass and weight in his career. No excuses, but it seems odd when I watch him and skating was one of his top strengths, now it seems a bit of a struggle for him. Spitballing ideas out there.

After about a dozen of very good third periods - positively getting them wins or to OT - they have had a couple f bad ones recently - costing them the CBJ game a couple of weeks ago (eerily similar to last nite), turning a close Carolina game into a blowout, costing them a regulation win last nite. Good teams win those thirds and games; not so good teams lose at the end.

If the Hawks continue to basically play “Bettman .500”, how is Bowman going to be a seller at the TDL? Certainly there are candidates to be moved (if they continue to play well) - Soderberg, Janmark, Murphy, deHaan....It’s one thing to say in the offseason (to fans and vet players) that they’re in a rebuild and temper your expectations for a while; if he gives up on making a tournament that is within reach, what does that say to Kane, Keith, whichever vets don’t get moved, even young vets like AdB...and fans?

Well, that’s why Stan makes the big bucks.

Thank you for the update. One place teams could look for players who "fell through the cracks" is Europe, Russia, Sweden/Finland. Players drafted but never signed with the NHL team who drafted them.

Chicago had two whom couldn't advance to the NHL. Tuuola and one dimensional Kontiola. But Kontiola did make and play in the Olympics. Then too the talented kid whom K Beech slugged in training camp. At one time some scout(s) liked the ability. I recall Jonathan Carlsson. Let's hope Nordgren can stay healthy and gets over to North America

Per Ek:

Replaced by Dominique Ducharme on Interim level...This is a fascinating move and a sign that GM Bergevin wanted the players on this team coached in a more offensive way.... more to come...FOR SURE.

Even more so against the Jackets. If the Hawks want to get into the playoffs, they will need to keep both Columbus and Dallas behind them.

Alex Burrows is on the new coaching staff. Everyone's pulling their hair out over this development...

Lankinen made some good stops at critical times, but he had some lapses that we didn’t see earlier.

On the 1st goal, the puck went under him. That can’t happen, got to have the ice sealed with his pads or stick.

On the 2nd (if memory serves) he mishandled the puck behind the net and got tangled up with one of the D.

On the last, he threw the puck up the boards, right to a BJ. He also got way off the center of the net

I like him, but he needs to get back to bring compact and simple, and work on his puck handling skills.

I’d like to see Subban on Thursday, he’s been pretty solid since his TB game

Just looking forward to the next game. Hoping they come up with a plan to disrupt Laine on the PP.

How about we just play better defense in front of him? He played a great game, forwards must skate back to the puck

Here is a stat, Murphy was paired with Zodorov. On 5 x 5 the pair was on the ice for 20 shots for and 12 against. Fancy stats say they played a great game.
