If you're going to fix this thing, because it's broken, you're going to have to make some moves of significance. Not sure they have the balls to do that, but it needs to be done.
To be clear though, Jim Benning is not the guy to pull off these moves.

Lots of respect for him . If he does come back for one more year that is okay. Canucks do have a lot of cap room this offseason , I hope they use it wisely. Then again next year could be another Covid year and then you need to see how it plays out. - VANTEL
They don't really though, I think they have 24 million but by the time you sign Pettersson, Hughes, Demko and Juolevi you're only going to have about 4 million left.

I won't get into a long chat about things that have been talked about over and over , we will see when we get there but Canucks should have over 3o mil in space this upcoming year . Looking at how the team has been playing Demko should not get more that three and Hughes should not get more than six.
Anyone suggesting Hughes should get more with his terrible D needs to rethink. We will see when we get there.
Best defenceman to ever lace em up for the Nuckleheads but his time is coming to an end

Watching that and seeing that Sedin team.. really makes it stark how far away the current roster is.
You can see how Edler stepped it up in the playoffs this past season. He's at that age where he can't be blowing people up all season long. Would love to see him on a playoff team for another run.. could always sign him back here next season.

Whether or not the Plandemic is milked for another year I think it's time to move on.
One more year of watching him get slower and softer isn't really moving forward IMO.

Maybe it's a good thing that Hughes will be -27 by the end of the season lol

If they buyout LE, they'll have about 30 mil with 12 players signed. A lot of cap, but a lot of players to add to the roster.
Are people really wanting to trade JTM this year? - NewYorkNuck
His play looks like he doesn't want to be here lately. Could be the best time to trade him for pieces that can improve us as early as next year. Lots of teams have items we want and would want him to try and win now, rather than 1-3 years from now.

Moving a guy who had massive success, is on a great contract, and was directly responsible for the team moving up in the standings last year simply because he's looked disengaged for a few weeks while still putting up almost a point per game would be ridiculous

I think this is the hit that kind of changed Alex Edler in terms of his hitting, they gave him three games for this. He was less prone to be physical after this.

Unless you're getting a future stud number 1 defenseman back, I agree.

A lot of teams will have 10 -12 players signed and around 20 mil in space. I think there is close to 10 teams or more like that. I think what players use to get paid is going to be a lot different that what players will be paid this year, if they want to play in the NHL.
Look at last years signings , there was a big cut in salaries mostly except for a few foolish teams (Flames and Habs) . League wide the money is not available.
In his 31 thoughts Freidman mentioned that this years free agency will be a rather quiet one.

That's the thing, 25-30 million sounds like a lot until you start adding up the players to be re-signed. Say Pettersson and Hughes get 6 million each, not out of the question, Edler gets re-signed because they can't replace him, there's another 4-5 million. Then you add in Demko at say 2.5 and Juolevi at 1.5, that's around 21 million. They've have room but not an abundance of it.

I never said they should move him because he looks disengaged, did I? I said the mix is wrong, the team isn't built to win, there's too many issues. So. You need to move players of value, which Miller has loads of, to retool the lineup and build a deeper more competitive team.

Okay, so who plays on the first line if you trade him? Are you getting back another 1st liner with a cap hit under 6 mil?
I don't disagree the team needs a shakeup, but Miller is the wrong piece to sell imo.

We have 28.1m cap next year(ferland can stay in LTIR during the summer and not count against cap)
Hughes and Ep say 7m each, Demko at most 3m, OJ probably 1, leave's us with 10.1m with 7 spots to fill. JV will likely be traded and it's to hard to replace his production with Lind at a much cheaper cap, 1.5m+ saved right there, now we have 11.6 or so to sign 6 players.
We may even lose some cap to Seattle if JB plays his cards right(not likely though, he sucks) But that is enough to fill our team, and potentially improve our situation.
