A recap of Subban's 2-0 shutout to lead the Blackhawks over the Blue Jackets in a more tightly contested matchup.

Surprisingly, it seems like the Hawks have found a pretty capable backup goaltender that can take some minutes off of their surprising #1 goaler. Jimmy Waite doing some good coaching work with these 2 guys.

Forgotten little fact about Subban - the Bruins tried to sneak him thru waivers a couple of years ago and were PO'd when Vegas claimed him. Originally he had been a Boston #1 round draft pick in 2012.

Alex DeBrincat

DeBrincat has shown courage and hustle all season to chase the puck in dump ins. Even when he gets beat to the puck, he's been willing to play the body and battle to get it back.

Don't know if I read it here or in the Athletic, but believe he leads the team in takeaways?

Great recap Theo and agree. He seems a lot more relentless on the puck than any previous season. There was a shift where he threw a nice check behind the net after a dump in, was able to get the puck and help create some havoc in the CBJ zone.

It looked like they were going to clear and he cut off a pass just inside the blue line and believe he ripped one from the circles.

Not really because of the low goal total, but at times last year I wouldn't have considered him a Core guy and it was mostly for what you cite. Seemed like too many times his line would be in the offensive zone and the other team usually had a pretty easy time retrieving the puck and head the other way.

Subban had a couple highlight reel saves last night. Great game from him.

That's definitely a forgotten fact for me. Didn't realize that's how LV obtained him and just figured he was an expansion draft pick.

Seeing more of Wallmark and less of Strome does not break my heart.

Having said that I am hoping and praying for a full and quick recovery for Strome.

Watching the young defenders make mistakes does not bother me too much, even when they are repeating the same mistakes a little too often. Also seeing them manhandled sometimes is ok. Seeing flashes of what they could be in a year or two is fun to watch.

The team is really skating well. Team speed compared to last year is like night and day. I suppose when we get back to full health we MAY be able to squeeze Toews and Dach into a 4th line role. Damn, that would likely be the best 4th line in the history of hockey. Nylander, of course, can still watch and learn from the pressbox and be inserted for spot duty...

I don t know if anyone else had to listen to the Columbus feed, but they were first salivating that Subban was in the net. They said he is shaky, looses the net, etc. etc. After Laine hit the post, they (especially Jody Shelley) said, just get pucks to the net, he has goalpost in his head. At the start of the third period, they said he has been lucky, going back to Laine’s goal post in the first period. After the game, they were still talking how lucky Subban was.

I thought it was very unprofessional broadcasting, besides I thought Subban really helped himself out with improved rebound control. With only playing approximately once every week/ten days, his only clunker so far has been game 1. And he has yet to play a “home game”. What athleticism on the save on Jones in the first period. Best part about it, he stayed in control.

I will take a lucky goalie with a .930 save percentage any day of the week. Is Subban another Jimmy Waite success story?

Listened to the Carolina feed, not the last game, but the one before, and the color guy was singing the praises, many times, about Lanks. Breaking down his game, talking about all the great things he was doing as a rookie. Was refreshing to hear.

Manisculoo has big shoes to fill replacing Forslund. I have heard him a few times. Good to hear. Yeah, the Columbus announcers sounded like they belonged in Trashville.

Been a beast, we hopefully get a third for him at The TDL. That is the bad part of Stan’s acquisitions to flip this year. They mean more to this team, than what they are going to get at the TDL. Maybe someone will pay a Vermette price for Janmark? Highly unlikely. Another Stan fail

If they don't make the playoffs after this start, JC has to go. Stan can't be gun shy at the TDL, time to push all the chips in. If not, sayonara.

This!!!

Can’t wait til the board implodes because Stan failed to go out and get the 2021 version of Kyle Quincey at the TDL.

Who are the biggest surprises on the list, up and down? I think the Hawks, Wild and Jets are better than anyone expected, in some cases way better. I think the Panthers were projected to be good, not this good. On the down side, I think the Canucks are way worse than expected, Preds and Stars worse but maybe the most surprising is the AV's who many predicted at the top of the league.

It's tough to read based on the limited opponents, division makeups and schedule changes due to covid. Heck, the Blues and Yotes played each other 7 times in a row. Hawks meanwhile thru the first 14 games had played each team in the division twice. That makes it harder to read exactly who is playing good/bad.

Let's revisit the history of TDL moves thru the years across the league and see how many of them actually led to Stanley Cup success.

Schedule breakdown:

Against the top three in the division - TBL, Car, FLA - teams clearly better than the Hawks - they are 1-4-2=4 points.

Against three teams we thought would be better than the Hawks - but maybe aren’t - Dal, Nash, CBJ - 6-2-2=14 points.

Against the one team we thought they were better than - Det - 4-0-0=8

So, 35 games remaining: 17 (half) against the top group, 14 against the middle group - the ones competing with the Hawks for a tournament spot - and 4 against the bottom.

Gonna b tuff.

I’ve heard those clowns before. There are some bad broadcast teams that can’t seem to be able to give credit where it’s due an opponent.

As much as I would prefer Eddie and Pat just stick to calling the game minus their schtick, I do appreciate their even handed call. I’ll extend the same to the Wing announcers. Used to not care for them but I had the Detroit feed for those two games last week.

Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels are ok and can at least acknowledge there’s another team on the ice vs the CBJ’s, B’s and Pred announcing crews to name a few of the most blatant and irritating homers.

Anything since the Vermette one? I also seem to remember people lamenting giving up a 1st and the great Klas Dahlbeck in that deal.

Vermette and Dezy allowed them to roll 4 pretty effective lines for that run.
