In what world is Gusev a goal scoring winger?

Gusev was at one point considered the best player outside of the NHL when Vegas got him.
Thats when.

He has not translated that to the NHL.

After the season he had last year, which was good enough for a return, this year has been totally disappointing.

Something is off. He could use a change of scenery (remember, he never played for Vegas) but his stock is at all time low.

Lol you had to dig into his MHL numbers. He’s always been known as a playmaker not a goal scorer.

yes. He was brought into Jersey with the hope he'd score.

But ok, move on.

eh no loss. He prob got off on the wrong foot with Ruff at the start and just said (frank) it. He played like it anyway.

I saw when he was on the power play he was struggling horribly to get off a one timer. Fanned on it a few times and then got off a weak shot. His wasn't know for his skating but his hand eye coordination and shooting was incredible. Something is just really off with him...

Hate to lose the guy for dinky doo, but the waivers makes sense...

Not to mention our cheapskate owners probably want to get back into the top 2 smallest payrolls in the league.

It's just bad asset management.... I don't if we could have gotten him going but sitting him did nothing.

I hear you. We dont know the behind the scenes stuff.

There is only so much you can do if the guy isnt responding. I have no issue w/Ruff benching him for Bastian or Merk. They weren't big point kids, but they had a positive effect from hits, fights, playing gutsy... Goose did none of it.

Well, Bastian has been a more impactful player in his role, this year, than Goose was.

Goose's play isn't really defensible. He's been horrid. I don't think anyone would argue that. It's just I think we are all wondering what happened? He struggled at the beginning of last year too. The guy has a lot of skills but maybe its the team or maybe he's just one of these very talented guys who can't make it in the NHL...

I haven’t seen a game all season. Has he really been that bad or is he having a bad year because of the coaching staff?

He's been terrible. But he probably had covid and he doesn't play well in Ruff's fast skating system. He can play for a team just not us.

He needs to play on a different team. Devils are never going to be a good match.
I think he may get picked up.

I don’t care if he’s not responding. I’d keep trying different things and after sitting a game or 2 put him back out there. The goal is making him tradable if you don’t think he’s going to workout in jersey. I know it’s up to the player to play, but I think the coaches threw the towel with him and to me that’s similar to a player not giving effort, in this particular situation. At least let him work through it and figure it out. This season is crazy and probably more stressful than usual. I would’ve let him play more and pray he turns it around.

Oh well, not a big deal. He just couldnt hack it in this new system, he's not fast enough to keep up and he didn't earn a spot over any of the kids. Maybe someone gives him a chance but teams don't want to pick up additional salary right now so i wouldn't be surprised if he clears. In which, he becomes more tradable after he clears, since he can just go onto the taxi squad for a cap strapped team until playoffs. We've seen just as much bad, or even more bad, as good from him since he's come over so either way I don't see him playing in the NHL next year, i think he'll go back to Russia

At what point does one player become more important than the team? Im sure the statistics would also confirm him in the lineup gave Devils a better chance to lose. For all we know, he might have also been poop during practice. And if you cant hack it in practice, then benching is the solution.

Yeah he's been brutal. Outside of his CF%(which is surprisingly good) hes been the worst player on the team in pretty much any and every other category analytically besides Boqvist. And he's just been an eyesore to watch from the "eye test" perspective. Incredibly slow, horrible decisions with the puck, created the least amount of offense on the team besides Boqvist, has a negative impact on an already horrid PP, and is a complete liability defensively. He hasnt shown a single positive this season even when given chances.

Speaking of that, i feel bad for Boqvist. Its apparent hes still not ready, and keeps getting put in not so great positions to succeed. I wanted them to just keep him down in Bingo because he was playing really well in a top 6 role with PP time. Then they yank him back up for some reason to play on a 4th line. I hate the how they're handling this kid
