You know you’re using your time well when you’re copy pasting sportsnet comments. Brodie is great until his D partner gets injured. Then he turns into a turnover machine.

Haha ... there hasn't been a new write-up on the Flames since they lost to Toronto and I think our writer disappeared. So I thought I keep you guys entertained with comments from other boards

But you and Duran are so right about sportsnet... this is the first time I went to sportsnet website in years after I googled Flames Trade Rumors and it took me there. I just thought it was interesting what Toronto people think about Brodie... they think he is one of the main reasons they are in First place. We could've got a 1st round pick for Brodie that would've helped our rebuild. I am pretty sure someone would've offered a 1st round pick.

I'll listen to you and Duran...I'll stay away from Sportsnet website but you gotta give me an A for effort for copy pasting comments from other boards at like 4 am

Haha that’s fair enough. I used to really like Todd but whatever else he’s got going on(unless it’s health/family related) isn’t a good enough excuse to not write a game day blog with nearly a week off in between games. Either way if it’s too much commitment HB would be better off searching for a new flames writer.

As far as Brodie goes I’ve always been a fan since I had a cousin that played AAA with him but I wasn’t naive to his faults.

What happened with Calgary: Drafted as an offensive D Hartley really liked him when he got into the league, as bad as we were at the time he was our 2nd best D and showed no signs of not being able to handle the top pair minutes. Toward the end of Hartley’s tenure teams started to anticipate Brodie’s back-hand stretch pass which led to multiple turnovers. Then in-came Gulu and Hamilton. This coach, the switch to the left side, Fan outrage that continually got worse really shook his development and confidence. He would look like a top pairing D on some nights and barely a 3rd pair D on others. Something that lasted up until his health scare last year, after that it seemed he stopped being so hard on himself and started playing consistently like a number 3 D.

What’s gone on in Toronto: In his first two games he was alright but was making offensive plays the led to some pretty bad turnovers. I think after that the coaching staff sat him down and said forget the offense, leave that to Reilly, just cover him and play the shutdown role (reason why it took him 40 games to get a goal). While I’m surprised that he has found this much success in this role it’s a nice surprise to say the least. I will also note that you don’t see him getting beat wide or that sliding stick swipe on the bad end of highlights like they were with us so wether that’s a new system or pure luck it’s once again good to see it working out for him.

My projection if he was still with us: More or less the same than where were at. I’ve stated before that Andersson’s problems this season aren’t as much the elevated role as it is him trying to compensate for the massive step back Gio’s taken. You put Brodie in that same role he likely struggles just as much if not more trying to force offensive plays.

All in all I’m happy for Brodie but I don’t think losing him is the massive blow media pundits put it. Ras is a long term piece to this organization and Tanev is just as good, if not better defensively, provides leadership to a team that lacks it, has been beneficial to hanifin’s development and comes in at a price tag 1 million cheaper than Brodie.

*also I heard a rumour from a guy who has a brother who trains with Brodie in the summer that in the off-season after our 1st place finish collapse that he said he was going to leave in FA, if true this is telling as to how far the current divide in the locker room goes back.

*Lastly as a hot take, if Gio moves on this summer Tanev will be the next captain if the team decides tkachuck isn’t ready

Thanks to hockey4hockey for a really entertaining contribution.

Without which I would never have learned that Tisdale Saskatchewan is famous for this:

and finally, I hope that Peter "Lou" Loubardias has a speedy and full recovery after testing positive recently.
