For just Palmieri, trading Bellows, a 1st Rounder, and prospect is too rich, IMO. But if NJ retains salary AND takes a bad contract from the NYI, it seems doable. I'd push for the Devils to take Ladd, though, at that price! - Quillanrocks
Nobody is taking that Ladd contract, no matter what |

The money between Komarov and Ladd is quite substantial. Leo is getting $2M actual money after this year. Ladd is due to get $8M after this year. And that's not including money left on this year. So with 50% salary on Palmeri's contract the Devils are basically paying you guys $3M+ if we take Leo and $9M+ if we take ladd.
Basically you can decide if Palms is worth a 1st or Bellows and if Leo is worth the other. The next prospect is likely not a substantial part of the deal and could just be someone to lighten the actual dollar cost to NJ.
And you have to factor that in the Isle get Cap Relief in addition to actual salary savings.

Anyone get the feeling like this is when some random team in 4th place or 5th place comes out of no where and gets Palmieri then signs um. The Sharks come to mind. |

Only people that are required to be protected are full-NMC's. There's no rule saying you have to protect someone with even a full-NTC. Komarov is free and clear to be exposed. - eichiefs9
Thanks for the clarification. Since we don't actually have that many guys to worry about, I haven't been paying much attention to the expansion rules. We lost Jon Merrill to Vegas. Just one of the hidden bonus to stinking. |

Sharks would be bananas to move assets out just to get pumped in the first round by COL or VGK. They are barren in prospects department and heading to full-rebuild-town fast. |

That franchise went south quickly. Some horrible contracts there. |

I think the Isles would have to be pretty confident about acquiring two wingers if they're going to move Komarov, honestly. Not that I value him in the slightest, but Johnston/Dal Colle/Bellows (for reasons other than the first two) probably aren't going to get it done in the playoffs for them. |

I give them credit for not being afraid to continue going for it while their core still had some lead left in the pencil, but it didn't work out and they're going to have a rough road ahead |

Honestly no team should pay much for hall.
complete garbage this season.
Give the AHL sabres a 3rd, they keep half the salary and be done with it. |

Ya that package for Palmieri is BS. I could see a 2nd and maybe Bellows but a 1st, 2nd, Bellows and have to take Komarov in the deal to? Ya not happening. |

I know it's the same rule that was in effect in 2017 for VGK expansion, but it seems goofy that NTC are not included there.
Does this in effect mean teams get them protected for free?
Or can those with NTC be actually chosen? If so, that would certainly break the spirit of that clause, as it was meant to prevent them from leaving the team if they objected. Thought NMC was same thing, but also prevented them from being sent down to minors.

You can absolutely select someone with a NTC. My guess is that the clause only protects them from trades and they aren't being "traded". Obviously they, effectively, kind of are...but it's not a trade. |

Are the Devils getting Matthews for Palmieri, or is it Hedman for Palmieri? |

NTC and NMC players can be asked to waive to be exposed. |

It depends on which team steps up first and adds a sweetener. |

No problem with that. Bruins probably get swept in round 1 if they hang on to make it. Then they can start their own rebuild. BTW Marchand is scum. |

The most amusing piece of this entire article is Ek's claim that he's in the press box in Philly lol |

That's not my point.
It seems players with NTC can be left unprotected and claimed even if they don't want to be. IMO that's definitely against the spirit of the NTC clause. It was meant to prevent being placed on another team against their wishes.
