For folks saying Lou doesn't overpay, there's Marleau, Pageau, Martin, and now Uncle Leo to prove that wrong. Isles need cap space, and the price to buy out a Lou overpay is a first round pick. The proposed deal doesn't seem all that farfetched IMO.

It seems players with NTC can be left unprotected and claimed even if they don't want to be. IMO that's definitely against the spirit of the NTC clause. It was meant to prevent being placed on another team against their wishes.

I disagree that it's against the spirit. I understand your argument, and it does make sense on the surface. However, you could use that logic to argue a player with a NTC shouldn't be able to be claimed on waivers.

That's what a NMC is for, not allowing the player to be moved under any circumstance. NTC is explicitly for trades.

I dont see the Pageau trade as an overpayment. He has been great and the 28th pick can also be a bust (doesn't seem like it in this case). The 2nd is meh.

martin's contract is mostly bad because of the term, and it gets much worse if we arent able to re-sign cizikas. but cizikas is far too important to this team to let go so i think they will make it work and keep that line in tact.

i would make that pageau trade 10/10 times. he has been a perfect fit here.

Overpaying by the Isles? Yes, of course it is. You are all forgetting that Lou has a lot of nostalgia, and good memories with the Devils. I think kicking it up a bit, is just his way of helping out a club that he has impressive history with, and he knows they need a few things. The Islanders have an abundance.
