He's one of the rarer types who have both great underlying numbers for stat guys and the physical game for the old school types. I'm just not ok with trading a 1st for a 35 point 3rd liner.
- burgh4life87

Yes, but have to understand that the 35 points is all at ES. Doesn't play on the PP in Philly. For a 3rd liner, that is a solid point total.

Except Craig Adams was a warrior. Jankowski doesn’t even really try to be better.
- Grinder47

And a teachers pet. Teammates were sick of it, Adams did one little slash to Geno in practice and it boiled over and Geno bloodied his ass. Good riddance.

I mean could you imagine Janko fighting Malkin in practice? Dude has no guts.
- Grinder47

Geno would beat his ass just like he beat Craig "Teaches Pet" Adams ass.

It is, but if you factor in the contract status and the flat cap next year, it would be tough to get him a fair deal right now, unless we moved a lot of pieces this summer. So it would end up being a 1st for a rental, which is not ideal.

The Pens aren't getting him, so it really doesn't matter.

Yah, we are just bs'ing over the hypothetical though. I think Philly re-signs him anyway, especially given the Nolan Patrick situation.

Welp, looks like the Flyers aren't making the playoffs and they aren't trading with the Pens either(unless it's a massive overpayment)! Only thing to root for from here on out is to hope that the Pens get speed balled in the first round!!!

I honestly think it really is this time. Unless he's got some concussion symptoms, his face hit the ice, so I'm guessing he's just some crazy pain going on and just needs to rest.
- Rinosaur

So you're expecting the best out of a potential Penguins injury situation. Have you learned nothing!

But Sully does seem to think he's playing so I guess it's fine.

That's the type of guy I like to add, but returns tend to be more about total points not ES. I'd be surprised if he got a 1st though maybe asking for one a year later gets someone to bite. Nice player, I wish I could see the Pens getting him.

Bidding wars tend to up a players value. I want the Flyers to retain Laughton but they can't re-sign him until after the ED.

I mean it’s not like Craig Adams is known on for... well.. anything really. His biggest accolade is fighting Geno is practice. What an embarrassment.

They probably will. They haven’t been contenders since they won the cup.

Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow both got firsts from TB last year. Maybe that’s why the price is high?

It is but they also had term at low cap hits. Those were also horrible deals value wise.

They had good contracts and term though. And I don't think a team other then Tampa does that.

Nothing wrong asking for a 1st, I just would be surprised if they got it unless an extension was involved.

Laughton was the Flyers' leading goal-scorer in the playoffs last season, plays near the top of the PK rotation, never quits on plays, vocal in the room and on the bench, produces a pretty decent amount of offense relative to his typical bottom six role (although he's been elevated a fair amount by Vigneault), can play LW or C and is in his prime at age 26.

There are multiple interested teams -- including the Flyers wanting to re-sign him and Laughton saying the other day that, given the personal choice, he wants to stay here -- so the rental asking price would be greatly inflated. Think Kris Versteeg ca. 2011 when the Leafs made a 1st round ask for him, and Philadelphia had to make it a 2011 first and third to get it done because they had competition. Versteeg was not worth a 1st much less a 1st + 3rd.

Flyers AGM Brent Flahr is not particularly high on this year's Draft, from all appearances. When Brian Smith and I interviewed him recently, he said this year's Draft isn't great at the top end compared to many other drafts and it's also not great depth wise.

From that, and it's just my speculation, I'd be inclined to think that the Flyers are among the teams who'd prefer 2022 assets to 2021.

Though I agree with you 100% on Laughton Bill.........Please don't let him see this before he resigns with Philly. Cap space is limited We need him on a reasonable contract, some big ones are around the corner - although Hart will come in alot less than many feared at least on a few year "prove it"

Heard Hextall on Madden earlier today. He basically said they won't be trading futures. Then he hedged and said something like "never say never", but it was pretty obvious those days are over.

I could see Hextall sifting through the bargain basement bin on TDL. Maybe give up one of our crap prospects or low pick in '22.

Sounds like Gaudreau has impressed him.

Also... Malkin skated today for the first time.

My guess is Boston is going to at least try to overpay for Hall or Brown. Hex can't play around now. I never like the idea of trading because of one team, but they might have to do that.

Pissing away assets for rentals and a midget seems like a bad idea. They are just gatekeepers for the elite teams.
