one more draft with him and we would have had another 4 D prospects though.. not sure why he always went D men
- SabresFaninIndiana

defense takes longer to translate to the NHL maybe? So get a good d pipeline, followed hard by forwards in the next year(s). And for the love of God... Draft a goalie every year.

For some reason CJ Thriller initially popped into my head when thinking about Etienne. Right or wrong it was my initial impression

He's a good receiver out of the backfield and can take it to the house at anytime. Don't think RB is a pressing need but he would definitely add some explosiveness back there. Would have to think Singletary gets traded if they did get him.

Boston have the most homer announcers in any sport, of any major sports city in the entire world. They are unequivocally the worst. Like, they are the human embodiment of genital herpes.

NBC actually did a good job all things considered. It's two big mistakes were Pierre McGuire and not being ESPN. The deal with ESPN is the biggest in league history, but both ESPN and Turner hold multiple sports TV rights. They're not going to get the attention and production value that NBC gave them anymore. The only question is does the money make up for that?
- buffalofan19

No, their biggest mistake was Mike "Doc" Emrick, who painfully explained to us, every single game, that this is the sport of Ice Hockey, it comes from Saturn's Ice-moon Enceladus, they use a stick and glide on skates across the surface of the ice and the idea of the game is to put a 3 inch rubber puck into the opposing team's net...

As if every god damn major sport isn't just some kind of variation on the same thing. Score a score, goal a goal, dunk a dunk, touch a down, etc...

Acted like it was 5-year olds as their demographic and they were also held back in kindergarten 5-year olds.

God am I glad he finally retired, pedo.

In a world where Ovechkin has stood at the left-circle for going on 15 years now, just blasting the same damn one-timer into the net over and over again, and teams still somehow haven't figured out how to defend it, honestly how (frank)ing dare you even say that.

Well if it's true, I am a little confused because the draft is gonna be important the next few years, the way Beane was talking last weak the cap isn't gonna go up much for another year or 2. Hate to give up to much draft capital.

a Minnesota team that caught lightning in a bottle this season.

- Pegullaville

Minnesota has been one of the best run teams in the league for the past decade. Always competitive, always attracts star-players, good drafts, great acquisitions via trade and free agency, and aside from those Parise/Suter contracts, they really haven't made any glaring mistakes as a franchise.

In the past 20 years, they've managed to refine their identity into a unique and modern look and made the playoffs 3 times in their first 7 seasons - Have made the playoffs 8 times in the last 10 seasons - For a 2000-era expansion team, that's incredibly successful, since the expansion drafts were a complete joke back then compared to what they've done with Vegas and are going to do with Seattle.

Only took the NHL 50 (frank)ing years but they finally realized that it's in their best interests to make an expansion team successful right out of the gates.

Minnesota is always a brides maid and never a bride.

Been stuck in no mans land forever.

Not good enough to win a cup, not crappy enough to tank for elite talent.

Just a doormat for the leagues elite, but I guess they aren’t the “Sabres” like Homie would say

Dude, lol, when that hoe does it for the next 10 years, then say that to me. I will sing his praises.

However, comparing anyone to Ovechkin is a travesty. He is a god. He is the best goal-scorer ever (imo) already and absolutely will go down as the best. He has 5 more years to break Gretzky's record, and didn't have the added benefit of shooting at pee-wee goalies in street hockey pads for the first 12 years of his career.

It's honestly a joke going back and watching old hockey highlights. Seeing a 7 foot tall Mario Lemieux deke a 5 foot tall goalie out of his skates isn't even borderline embarrassing - It legitimately makes the old NHL look like a joke compared to footage from the other major 3.

NFL, NBA, MLB, they've been the same game for a hundred years, with minor rule changes every decade or so to improve scoring in miniscule ways while still keeping the game competitive...

Don't get me wrong, what I love about hockey is how it has evolved over the past 30 years especially, with advancements in technology especially making the game safer and more exciting...

But if there's one position in sports that has seen the largest improvement in almost every single aspect of the position, it's been goaltending in Ice Hockey. For very obvious reasons, the position was a joke for the majority of the NHL's history - When you're shooting vulcanized rubber at people's exposed skulls, you can see why but in terms of athleticism, importance and evolution of the position, Ice Hockey goaltending has seen the largest level of improvement aside from the Quarterback position in the NFL, and even that has a lot to do with rule changes to make them more protected than the pope in his pope-mobile.

Minus the "pedo" line, I agree.

Hockey was, is and always will be a niche sport and all the clowns at that network did was insult the sport's fans with that crap. Good riddance.
