they don't play him 24 minutes a night, whoever the coach is, and then give him away

people are acting like he is getting the bogo treatment

there is a reason why every year he leads them in ice time

- homiedclown

Well, Bylsma fired, Housley fired, Krueger fired....
Their reasoning isn't sound...hence why they are in 31st place again.
Don't defend stupid

A lot. Because the numbers are instantaneous to their site for the most part.

And it’s a lot more involved in terms of it being compiled electronically

- sbroads24

honest question, how are they instantaneous?...the NHL has yet to unleash their analytics tracking system so not sure how any other site could do so

Have I once said he’s the reason we lost?

His performance was certainly a part of it though

https://thehockeywriters.com/kings-many-options-2021-trade-deadline/
"
The first option for the Kings to look at currently with the Buffalo Sabres is a player who is slowly becoming “the other Rasmus” on his team, Rasmus Ristolainen. The big Finn — standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 218 pounds — is an absolute unit on the ice and uses his size well. Currently fifth in the league for hits by a defenseman with 112, he loves to throw his weight around. He has also finished the last three seasons with 200-plus hits, so the Kings would be able to rely on him for a high volume of hits consistently.
While Ristolainen’s career so far has been a mixed bag, I think being able to play second fiddle to Doughty would be a great thing for him. Having led the Sabres in average time on ice every season since 2015-16, a slightly more sheltered role on the Kings’ second pairing could bring out the best in Ristolainen. It’s also important to remember that he is not just a brute on the back end — he’s been consistently putting up 40-plus points in his eight-year NHL career. He also has the potential to score some highlight-reel goals, something Brent Burns learned the hard way."

Good, trade Risto and Jack to the Kings.

the thing that really got me thinking about stats compilation was the first pitt game lst week...the pens scored two goals from in tight and one from below the goal line...according to natural stat trick toki had 5 hd chances against and 5 hd saves, which is ridiculous considering erod scored from the slot and rust scored from a tip with his stick in the crease...mcann's goal was about as low a chance as possible yet toki was credited with no ld goals against...

still bottles the mind

It's been a few hours and it's (frank)ing snowing and I'm biting on everything Ristolainen and it's my own god damn fault.

Btw Jack Eichel was watching from the press box last game.

I wonder if that was his first time back from rehab or injury or both

That's my problem, I'm not trusting the numbers. The people compiling and processing them are human. I'll give you a simple task, compile the primary assist numbers for each Sabres player since Ralph left, which is a month
- Michael Pachla

Hm, well if you don't trust analytics tracking it's tough to go any further with it

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Did you make sure you had nothing filtered?

It automatically goes to 5v5 when you do natural stat trick.

There’s two things for me

- Not trusting the actual tracking

- Not trusting what the actual stats are supposed to tell us

I think tracking at this point is fine. I think if people don’t trust that those numbers mean someone is/isn’t good is another discussion

It's the way this is supposed to work...analytics are overrated because they don't tell the whole story..and not only that, while the amateur hockey scouts here and across social media continue to tout analytics as the Rosetta Stone of scouting, no one can here can tell me who compiles those stats, what criteria is used and how the final results are tabulated
- Michael Pachla

Actually, I stay out of the labeling of the players because I am not going to invest time in looking at analytics like others. I spend my day working analytics and know what their uses are.

I did not say he is terrible. I do not have anything against him. It is my guess that he is probably a 60/40 chance, when moved to a winning team, he gets many Norris Trophy votes.

Overall, the combination of players hurts the whole. The Sabres are the definition of the sum of the parts is a sh!t ton less than the whole.

- TC4145

Nope.
He may play better on a team that has a stud ahead of him.
He's really a 2nd/3rd Pairing tweener...been saying it for 2 years now.
If he was paid $2.0m I wouldn't have a problem keeping him.

Yeah, because most 2nd pairing tweener, 40 point defenseman make $ 2,000,000 on a better team.

With a stud ahead of him.

And then 2 or 3 other guys better than him.

Colorado and Carolina are the two biggest users of analytics in the NHL.

Their records indicate that

Ristolainen is Tyson Barrie.

Stick him on PP1 and he’ll get 40 points because he is good at that.

Both defenceman aren’t good at much of anything else though.

Sounds like a research project for one Micheal Pachla.
12 pages, single line spacing, 10 pitch font please.
Graphs and charts may not consume more than 29.167% of the 12 pages
We'll expect that by Thursday at 12:00 noon.

Are they the only two? Vegas? Boston? Tampa? Nashville - did they ignore analytics for the first half and then find analytics heaven and were reborn recently?

This. Barrie has offensive ability. Risto should only be used on the PP as a pilon in front of the net (and even then only in desperate situations).
