Maybe Power is right, if LA really does like Risto he would be a fair player to ask for.

Sounds like a research project for one Micheal Pachla.
12 pages, single line spacing, 10 pitch font please.
Graphs and charts may not consume more than 29.167% of the 12 pages
We'll expect that by Thursday at 12:00 noon.

Hey Cashman, I caught the interview with your niece. She seem's like a great nurse and human. I was Super impressed with her interview. Congratulations, I'm sure you're rightfully proud 👍

I don’t have a niece, that was someone else.

honest question, how are they instantaneous?...the NHL has yet to unleash their analytics tracking system so not sure how any other site could do so
- Michael Pachla

The NHL has their own tracking system and has been providing it for some time now. See below.

The large majority of the publicly-available data and statistics all are derived from the NHL’s own Application Programming Interface (API). Before you yawn and dismiss it for techno-babble, the NHL API is also used to feed websites like NHL.com, ESPN, TSN, and most fantasy hockey sites. It contains a massive amount of information, that, once sorted through, can give you anything from number of hits for a player to the framework for advanced statistics like Goals Above Replacement (GAR).

https://www.google.com/am...tics-expected-goals-model

Game
GET https://statsapi.web.nhl..../api/v1/game/ID/feed/live Returns all data about a specified game id including play data with on-ice coordinates and post-game details like first, second and third stars and any details about shootouts. The data returned is simply too large at often over 30k lines and is best explored with a JSON viewer.

again...have you ever tried to compile statistics?...

how many people does naturalstattrick have analyzing each game and compiling stats?

- Michael Pachla

The NHL provides the data for free for every game.

Natural Stat Trick, like all the other sites, simply runs code to get the data, process the data, and refine the data to provide it on their site, which is why their site takes time to load when you access it.

Natural Stat Trick has some inconsistencies that I've noticed, such as including goals scored in empty net situations as part of their even strength statistics.

It's why I prefer Evolving Hockey as they don't make those kinds of 'mistakes'.

The funny thing is that I feel bad for the guy. He needs to move on from this organization as badly as the organization needs to move on from him. The guy is an absolute warrior and also deserves better than he has gotten here.
- Slump Buster

Completely agree with the above, especially this season with what Covid did to him.

I really like you better when we ignore each other.

You've turned into a grumpy turd 🙋‍♂️

- Boss34

Thanks, but I can also rely on you to throw personal insults.

Maybe you should take a Hockey for Dummies class...I think they go over why relying on Fantasy Draft positions isnt the best idea in formulating set in concrete opinions on players.

I do hope today is better for you. We can all tell on what days you're getting your ass handed to you at work.

The fantasy league scores points for hits and blocked shots.

A player that has a high number of blocked shots and hits must also spend a lot of time in their own zone as both of those attributes require not having puck possession, as if one had the puck they would not be hitting nor blocking shots.

Therefore, Risto is a good fantasy league player because of the fact he is getting Taco points for those respective categories. This does not exactly correlate with him being a good d-man however because we get out chanced and our scored when he is on the ice.

- Pegullaville

But, but, but...someone on a hockey board drafted him in a fantasy draft in the 1st round...he must be good.

I rest my case.

That's a shame, but get it taken care of and be ready for camp. They don't have the horses down there to do anything anyways especially with a 1/2 there team up here.

So is he actually bad?
Or is he misused by a bad team against good players?

- jdfitz77

Let's put it into context...
His analytics are bad, partially driven by his teammates, but moreso by his own play.
The eye test reveals this as he
-makes horrible decision after horrible decision with the puck in his own zone,
-makes completely useless attempts to clear the zone under pressure, usually blindly up the boards resulting in possession by the other team in his own Dzone still.
-He plays physical in front of the net, yet most of the time his brain freezes and his singular focus on being physical rather than tying the opponents stick up usually is ineffective.
- he hits hard along the boards, normally after the opponent has already distributed the puck to a teammate...thereby causing him, 1 of 2 defensemen, to be often out of position.

He's very bad at the Defense, and Transition part of the game, including shutting down zone entries.
At $5.4m he is too expensive to play 3rd pair, where a team could hide him, deploy him better in favorable situations, and leverage his best skills on the PP.

He shouldn't be a top 4 Dman. Sabres do not have a 1RhD, so everyone on the right plays up a spot.

The key to the offseason rebuild is to trade him for something, reinvest the money in a true 1st Pairing RhD to allow Joker and Borgen to play 2nd & 3rd pairings.

Now, after hearing all this

Fitz - why do you justify him as a 2nd pairing?

That's not true. Most people wanted both Hagel and Estephan. But after Hagel was released, people didn't think much of it. Botterill's big misses, for a guy who seemed to be so in tune with finding lower grade talent, was Blackwell and Hagel.
