I'm tired,” Merzlikins told the media. “I'm tired of losing a game. I know we are trying, but this is getting embarrassing. It is what it is, I'm going to be honest with you. It's painful. I mean, sitting in that locker room, and trust me we are trying. We seriously are trying. We didn’t give up.

“It’s bothering me. I can’t sleep, like seriously. What have we lost now? Seven straight games? This is really sad. You can’t imagine that, because you are not part of our family and you don’t live this, together with us in the locker room. So you can’t really understand that, but it hurts. For me personally, it hurts.”

"I don't want to get to Buffalo, I don't want to get to that point like Buffalo, seriously,"

Imagine if this guy got traded here. He'd jump off the Peace Bridge.

do you think having the bruins and bolts in our division is a reason risto has not been traded, despite what the peanut gallery says?
- homiedclown

bruins, yes...bolts...maybe

they need to transition away from viking55 and trading him before the expansion draft makes the most sense to me

To clarify, he was speaking of the losing streak. Which deserves severe criticism.

Horrendous usage and system for that player. Wonder where we've seen that before.

you may be right...i just think the odds are stacked heavily against success in a division as strong as the atlantic with some of the best coaches in the league
- Michael Pachla

Is it their coaching or that they have better overall rosters from top to bottom then the Sabres, especially right now with Eichel, Ullmark, and McCabe all out?

It's at least a mix of both, if not more so towards the better roster component, no?

How many teams need another defenseman to protect for the expansion draft?

If The Rangers come in and offer This for Eichel, do you take it.

2 of
Laf
Geogiev
Kakko

You also get
Buchnevich

+ a 1st rd pick

- ImThatGuy

They would never offer that so not even worth discussing

My best guess at potential teams that would protect Ristolainen over one of their possible other 3 based on CapFriendly's expansion draft functionality:

Coyotes, Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Oilers, Kings, Montreal, Devils, Islanders, Rangers, Sharks, Canucks, Capitals

I'm not saying any of those definitely would. It's only my guess while looking quickly to see if Ristolainen is a better option then the 3rd defenseman one of those teams would protect.

Viking55 is an easy target.

Obviously he has flaws, but blaming the last decade of losses on him is deflecting.

The Sabres have been a black hole of effortless overpaid looooosers.

I'd be shocked if he's exposed for the kracken

- Boss34

If he is not exposed, we didnt protect the right three defensemen

it's not even up for debate...it's a combination of talent, proper talent for the style you want to play and a coach devising a strategy to maximize the plan as laid out...take out any of those components and it fails...the extent to how it fails when placed alongside expectations varies, but it's a fail none the less...

the sabres have had varying/multiple components fail for the past 10 seasons...

at least

If Donnie Meatballs can't beat Boston once, does he deserve to have interim removed from his title?
- Michael Pachla

He’s done pretty good with what he has had to work with. I’m not at all concerned with any one of the goalies and looking around the league there is no doubt they will all play in the NHL somewhere next year. Sure bring in some new blood in net but if this team continues to play as soft as they have for the most part they aren’t going anywhere. Let the kids play key roles and bring in some toughness. Chara has one more good year in him to play alongside Dahlin and Lucic can play with Jack and Ollafson. Granato 1 year term.

I agree, that was a tin that Mitts was trying to hide. There were bottles all over the place. Only those that were big time dudes in sports dip. I'm a perfect example.

Opinion here, everyone has one. 😀

Borgen really made risto expendable last night .....

I'm all for protecting the future, but the lack of value people assign for viking55 is ridiculous.

Cant let him walk for free, thus trade it protect him.

Or extend him......

am leading towards a scenario where jack echl might be more inclined to favor an experienced head coach over donnie meatballs...he's just watched two head coaches with no/little experience behind the bench decimate this team...

i like what granato has done and i like what he could do with the talented youngins at his disposal...but when the bullets fly, what does he fall back on when things arent' going well?...the juxtaposition between his style and ralphs?

You can't play lockdown hockey with the pieces the Sabres have. Between the style of defensemen and the type of forwards we have, it just won't work. We saw that.

Whether it's donny or someone else, they need to hire an offensively minded coach - this group is not built to play Larry hockey
