Interesting from EK, would Joonas Donskoi be a decent add if Avs don't think they can protect him.
Edit: never mind just saw the cap hit

The best free agents either never leave their teams or were never presented the opportunity to succeed.

The most quality comes from the cheapest contracts.

I hate free agency.

I'd like for Granato to stay.

He has all of the kids playing well, and together as a team under him for whatever reason.

He's been a breath of fresh air.
Refreshing.

The way that I see this group of young men playing under Granato gives me legitimate hope for next season.

I agree with this but jack might not want another coach that hasn't had much experience

I dont think Jack has earned the right to have any say over who the next coach of the team is and if he does have a say, shame of the organization for giving this kid that type of influence over these kinds of decisions.

How’s he been doing recently in Chicago? He couldn’t grab a spot in bottom six with the Panthers. Maybe would’ve done better with more games, but he never impressed enough to earn another game when in, and I assume didn’t do enough in practice to get Q to put him in more.

Haven't watched him this year but it looks like 8 points in 9 games in chi town. He was a player I was intrigued by when he was with Arizona.

Btw I'm sure everyone knew this but buffalo was going to pick hall over sam ( Obviously didn't work out)

Just Drury over Briere over again

am thinking risto/kuemper as a base for ari

to the kings for a second and a third

don't think ottawa would be in on that but wouldn't mind connor brown and a second or third rounder coming back

- Michael Pachla

I like Connor Brown. He’s a hard worker who can score. Should have made a deal for him and Kadri when they could have been brought in for next to nothing. The Hall/Staal thing would have never happened and playoffs would be right there. Too easy to make these decisions now for a few years back.

Thank goodness the Hall experiment failed so spectacularly, and that coach Ralph was removed.

Hopefully by The Sabres you mean Ralph Krueger, and not necessarily Adam's after Ralph left.
If not, I'm not sure why they would do so outside of the fact he's faster. Better point producer...nope.

i'm on the "sign david savard" bandwagon...if skunk is traded, i'd like to see a suitable replacement but other than that i wouldn't do anything in the top nine...echl with skimmer and skunk (tkachuk?) followed by the two kids lines and whomever on the fourth line...

they might need to add one more d-man, my suggestion is go after mike reilly, and they need to, obviously, fix their goalie situation...however leave the top nine forward group as is and see how it flies

if the sabres moved on from reinhart, the guy i'd go after and overpay for is zach hyman...would be a great addition to buffalo's top-six and i could easily see him riding shotgun on eichel's wing

Bryson is exempt from the expansion draft.

My bad

Trade. It.
Because it’s not worth the next contract.
It’s not worth opening Borge. Or Bryson to expansion.

Here's the fun talk:

With Reinhart now showing aptitude as a Center, and the duo of Cozens and Mittelstadt showing the same at Center, do you try and trade Reinhart for a quality winger with bite to his game like Tkachuk?

https://www.capfriendly.c...m/players/matthew-tkachuk

While quite a few would say yes to that deal in a second, it's far from easy when you factor in the cap and their contracts.

Tkachuk has the poison pill final season of his current deal QO built in of $9M, so you're either qualifying him for that amount or you're signing him to a big, long term deal that might cost more than it would to extend Reinhart.

It's not an easy decision at all.

- kingcong39

Tkachuk is having a down season bc CGY blows so bad this year- so it’s doubtful (imo) that a long term contract will cost too much more than $7mil per
He & Sam should have contracts in the same neighborhood I’d think

I think we all agree on Eakin's worth.

Removing him, haven't all of Tage, Ruotsalainen, Bjork, and Asplund all looked good? That's 2 full lines worth right there.

Let's say they keep together the Asplund - Mittelstadt - Tage and Bjork - Cozens - Ruotsalainen lines.

What do you do with the following: Okposo, Girgensons, Olofsson, and Skinner?

I would call Vegas and see if they'd be willing to swap Reilly Smith for Ristolainen.

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/reilly-smith

Then you could go Skinner - Eichel - Smith and Olofsson - Reinhart - Girgensons/Okposo

I think that Reinhart line tells you to see if you can upgrade the wingers there.

- kingcong39

The problem with that is what lines takes on the tough defensive responsibility?
We don’t have a “Drury” or “O’Reilly” anymore who can play that 2way game

It’s not the end all be all,
but u do have to consider who you’re putting out there against Matthews & Marner, etc etc etc when we have a faceoff in our own zone

In-game matchups do matter

Doubt he takes that. He will be qualified if traded for, and that would be around 9. So he's got two years to bump his stock plus have the cap recover. Will be a while until he takes a long deal unless he's overpaid from the start

So what can we build with this?

Skinner. Jack. Samson.
Bjork. Cozens. RW #2
Asplund Mitts. Tage.
Grigs. R2. RW #4

VO - trade.
Okposo - jock itch.
Eakin - fire into sun.

Does VO/Risto trade get you a 2RW?

I know everyone is Gaga over Samson center... but we don’t have the RW depth to afford that luxury. We have seen what
Jeff-jack-Sam can do... you go back to that in a meatball system and hopefully find that lightening again.

- Gr8daygo

Seems like you’re forgetting about Routsalainen
Small sample size- but he looks like a top9 guy

One thing to remember is with covid the market is down. Things are uncertain and a lot of players have taken cheaper contracts

Cheaper SHORT contracts. If your trading for Matty T, you aren't going to walk him to UFA with a shorter deal to save some bucks

I thought we were talking about Reinhart. But the idea of Tkachuk is a very interesting idea
