Doubt he takes that. He will be qualified if traded for, and that would be around 9. So he's got two years to bump his stock plus have the cap recover. Will be a while until he takes a long deal unless he's overpaid from the start

Hockey players don’t tend to “wait” on a long term deal when they can get it
With his style of play, Tkachuk would be risking injury & losing a lot of $$$ when he could sign something like 7x7.5m with us
Or maybe his agent hustles Adams & gets even more... But that could happen with Sam too
I think their contracts should be similar on a long term deal

I'm just saying he has his contract this year, with how it was structured to have a high qualifying offer. Him and his agent set it up that way. He probably felt at the time he was taking a discount then, so he could set up the QO to be that high. I just don't see him backing out of his plan to cash in for a Kevin Hayes type contract. That's all

crazy, when you don't play him with Griffith, Josefson or Pouliot, he can produce as a center

who would have thought that

👏👏👏
It’s crazy that we didn’t try Sam back at center till now

Well the discussion is basically what would Tkachuk cost vs Sam?

I think long term contracts for each would be complicated like u say- but also be roughly the same for a long term deal
So i wouldn’t be worried about trading Sam for him

I’d MUCH rather do Olofsson + though & keep Sam too

Yup, in a contract year to boot.
That seems to be the Sabre way, maximize guys value in their contract year so they have to pay more on the next one.

Perhaps in this case they are doing so to maximize his trade value.
If so, kudos to them for doing so.

I do wonder how much value Olo has across the league.
His raw counting stats are decent, and perhaps someone believes they can unlock his EV scoring dilemma.
On the other hand he has fallen off with Jack out not being able to gift him saucy passes for a wide open net look.

I'm with you though, I would actively look to trade him..so far R2 looks like a bonafide replacement for him.
Package Risto and him...maybe hold some celery given it is only 1 year left to increase the value back.

Gotta think there’s some GMs that see that shot of his on the PP & would be excited to add that to their roster
No clue what they’d be willing to give up for him though

Don’t think u can package him & Risto
That’s like $9mil in Cap

the day ror was traded, he should have been given a serious look at the second line center

over berglund, erod, casey, johansson, etc

I kept asking why.....
(and correct me if I’m wrong, but u heard he was “too slow”)

Sure doesn’t look like it now
Trying Sam back at Center should’ve been a “no brainer”

Where’s the brilliant posters here who kept telling me “he had his chance & can’t do it”
They must be busy eating their crow 😂😂😂

He did. And he was lousy as a center. Even as a center right now he hasn't been ideal.

What has he done at C, he's slow and still doesn't carry the biscuit very well.

Alot of crow being eaten right now..
Personally, I am full on multiple heapings of Mitts and Tage ... good on them for taking their development seriously and putting forth the effort and willing to listen to coaching. I am happy to eat that all day.

Now if friggin Risto would just come around, but 7 or 8 years in, it is time to face the reality.

Sam was too slow his first couple years. He looks faster (not fast) last year and this year.

His last chance was such a ... I don't know what it was...but the analytics said he was actually ok..and the analytics still show he makes others better. (Or at least it did )

Why do u have to be fast or carry the biscuit well to be effective as a center???

His production proves u wrong

Slow and up until recently, way too passive. Perimeter player. Faceoffs suck but getting better slightly. Skins and Olo driving the line from wings. Nine pp goals and at least 1 en out of 20 meaning only 50% (at most) of his goals at 5v5

Fast enough to have scored 20goals
It’s not like ppl are claiming Sam is MacKinnon or anything

Maybe you’ve forgotten who our other 2Cs have been since the ROR trade???
