Anderson with his first goal in 16 games. He’s having a rough year and it’s time for him to step up and show that he’s part of the solution not problem. Maybe being saddled with Gio is too much for him, but Tanev seems to make Gio look better..Stealing the puck in that Ottawa game and all the negativity it created could also be part of the reason he looks complacent. I’m sure Sutters talk about moving Gio with Tanev so he wouldnt be saddled with a young guys mistakes and could better play his game didn’t do much for his confidence.

So was Bennett the problem in the dressing room? Seems the team is playing better for each other. Or is it just a matter of Sutters system and demands falling into place. I haven’t heard one player say “we have to play faster” like they were all saying when Sutter first arrived.

If Noah can’t go, my guess is they dress Nesterov, I’d rather see Kylington but I think they’ll go with a more veteran player. Not sure why as the kids a speedster on skates.

I’m sure it was probably awkward playing with a guy that requested a trade but he seemed to be well liked so I’d say it’s more Sutter’s system being in place.

barely any comments because everyone's buried their foreheads in the hands - another year where we either miss the playoffs by 2pts, or make it and swiftly get our a... handed to us, and again fail to get a top 5 draft pick. Same old tune.

His tendency to force a bad pass when he gets pressured makes this less than a totally bad thing imo.

I don’t think that’s the only reason. It’s not easy to write about the Flames all the time. But it’s also the 5 things to watch layout. I still come to read and if there’s action and I have something to say illl comment. But the layout of the article gets so repetitive, redundant. There’s so many more subjects to write about that could spark more conversation. We’re lucky to have a blogger as lots of teams don’t.
Before anyone jumps all over me and ask why I don’t write, I don’t have that skill, I’m not a writer.

That’s too bad. I agree with Todd he’s having an excellent year, starting with Tanev reallly boosted his play. Who gets his spot?

I'm wondering if the real life pressures of trying to play hockey as if nothing is wrong is finally starting to wear down some teams - like the Canadiens and Jets.
In which case the Flames might have the advantage of being "reinvigorated" at this point in the season by Sutter's piss and vinegar determination. If they can pull out a win today I'd say they've got a real good chance. - as long as they can somehow avoid getting sick.

If Mangiapane had a twin brother who played D we'd be on our way for sure.

We’re lucky to have a blogger as lots of teams don’t.

Todd has his own blog site now. That is why he stopped writing for the Devils. He did some really good articles for them on Hockeybuzz and still does with his new gig.

He seems busy, so we do not get the really good interesting blogs that other teams get.

We could have Garth. Being a Buffalo fan is bad enough as is and then imaging having Garth.

Be thankful for what you have.

Never said wasn’t thankful. If you’re going take on a job though, you get much better results if you do it well. Why just go through the motions?
Would tolerate it at work, why now.

I appreciate what we get, when we get it, which is few and far between. I could care less what other teams have or don't. I come here for the banter not deep insight or analysis...
If Todd doesn't have time, say so. At least we'd know and as I asked above... does anyone want to write a game day blog?
Maybe we can convince Tanner or Cloutier?

Agreed, the Flames are in mediocre purgatory right now. Some better hockey of late has pushed them up the overall standings, but not having a shot at a high end player at the top of the draft is going to hinder this team from making a step towards deep playoff runs in the next couple seasons.
Would have loved to see the Flames playing well enough to be jockeying with the Oilers in the standings for home-ice in what would be a fantastic first round matchup. I also would not have been too upset if they were losing a few extra games to look forward to a prospect like Power, Guenther, Johnson, etc.
Where they are now is tough to be excited in either direction....

What type of moves get this team to contention?
A retool or a rebuild? Is there enough good pieces in place to work with?
Sign a few free agents? Try to avoid another James Neal UFA deal?

Better hang up and make sure you call the right number next time. If he answers on the first ring it's all good.

So what position do we end up drafting? I believe we will finish above Van only because the have to play a lot of games in a short time.

Thinking somewhere around 18-20. Hopefully they can find a diamond in the rough. Gonna be a wierd draft.
