if you sign a guy until 39 years old, you only do that to lessen the cap hit

San Jose does things wrong, quite often

I honestly think the Rangers plan to sit tight and not make the bigger moves until next trade deadline. Like has been mentioned, this past year of hockey has been anything but normal and thankfully the Rangers, being such a young team, are in a position to wait and see how things play out particularly with the expansion draft and all that.

First of all, I never said were trading Chytil for Jenner. Great work taking things out of context. All I said is Id like to replace Chytil on the 3rd line with Jenner (or someone of the same ilk).

Secondly, I dont know what numbers youre looking at but up until this year Chytil's never outscored Jenner at any point in his career. Thirdly, Im not bringing Jenner in to score, which he can clearly do, hes being brought in to add grit, faceoffs, special teams play. All those things we lack. The Jackets have been a bit of a train wreck, so I give him a bit of a pass.

Ok well my apologies, the wording of "replacing Chytil with Jenner" who is still under contract sounded like you were proposing that as a deal, sorry if I misunderstood.

As for the stats, I said on a PPG basis.

This year Chytil has 20 points in 38 games (0.53 ppg) vs Jenner's 17 points in 41 games (0.41 ppg)

Last year Chytil had 23 points in 60 games (0.38 ppg) vs Jenner's 24 points in 70 games (0.34 ppg)

Seeing that hank, Shatty, Johnson, and Smith money coming off the books while not having to pay crazy bonus money to the rookies...its a good day coming

Im throwing this year away.

But again, hes not being brought in to score. We can do plenty of that without Chytil, and Jenner isnt a slouch himself. Jenner could be one of those guys who is just worn out with being on the Jackets (and with Torts) and needs a change of scenery.

These are also moves you make if youre sure your team can be a Cup contender, these are not rebuilding moves.

All that bonus money had us on the edge at the start of the year.

This year could end up being a blessing. Save future cap money plus showing that improvements are needed this summer in certain spots.

This is the dumbest fantasy league ever. You legit added the entire Tampa and Detroit lineups to win yesterday. There has to be a cap on moves next season.

Also, why is goal scoring such the measure in this situation. Think about the flipside. Think about how many less goals would have been given up if Jenner was on the ice taking faceoffs and back checking instead of Chytil... or any defensive zone faceoff and on the penalty kill. Those are the things Im focused on.

The fact that you guys dont have a cap on moves is ridiculous. My league since day 1 has had a 7 move cap.

I agree on Jenner. He’s the kind of player they NEED. I was banging that drum last year. And you’d think JD has some intel on him

Suppose they got Jenner for Strome. Then they get Lindholm for a package with Chytil involved. That’s a great 1-2-3 at center w/Zib

Thanks again for carrying the blog. Ended up working Saturday’s night after the sabbath, unexpected, and half of Sunday. Reading the comments and trying to take some for the blog down the road on the issues that came to further to light the two games versus the Isles.

I agree with that. I just think we're a year or so away from being a true contender so if the plan is to trade a young guy for a vet we should let the young guys develop a bit more here for the next year and then trade them when we are truly in the running and they would theoretically have more value at that point being slightly more established players and playing on a team that is presumably doing pretty well.

I don't disagree with your thought process I just think we're a year too early. I also think that there's been a bit of an overreaction to the last 2 games (not pointed at you). The Isles are a good team that went to the conference finals last year, losing to them isn't shameful. The manner in which they lost is a little concerning but at the end of the day you can't start making major moves because you don't match up well against 1 team that plays a style that's very unpopular in the league. When we go back to a normal season we won't have to play them 8 times. We matched up pretty well against the Caps, B's and Pens this year

Scoring isn't the end all be all for sure but you're kind of acting like Jenner is some Selke candidate which he isn't. He has negative advanced statistics, was -14 last year when the team was a playoff team and is -9 this year. That's not to say he's not used in defensive roles which skews the numbers a bit but great defensive players still have positive metrics despite that.

Theres not much I wouldnt trade to get Barkov to NY.
- aecliptic

Yes we know, you want Barkov, so does every team in the league. There is no way Fla lets him go, 10m x 8yrs or 11m x 8yrs will keep him there. Please dont say Fla doesnt have the money, they do, they just signed Bob for 10m per, so the money is there.

Fixate on Someone else more realistically.

while I agree that Florida won't let him go, isn't that particular fact more of an argument that they can't keep him

I think in the 2022-23 season, if the kids developments continues, the Rangers will be able to compete for the cup. That's not to say they'd be favorites, but I think the hopeful plan would be to make playoffs next season, get some experience, and then the window on contention would open the following year.

when the Rangers are in the playoffs, the day of a game, I'm not thinking "well, this isn't really our window"

I'm having heart attacks all day long until the game starts
