Honestly, how far are we going to take this line of thinking based solely on a speculative comment?
Is it possible that Quinn said something like that? Of course. But, as he seems to be a prideful guy, who played defense all the way up to this league, I have to think he's not so Zen-like as that.
My opinion is that it was more to do with the fact that none of our guys play a tough, physical game to begin with.
Smith and Lindgren are tough guys who are willing to fight, but either one of them would get smoked by Wilson.
I love our talent, but this makes it painfully obvious that our team structure needs to be altered.

That being said, I REALLY want to see somebody give a Kharlamov to Backstrom tomorrow night. And then to the next guy that jumps in to defend him, too. What is this bullpoop, wussy league gonna do? Suspend them 4 games? Big deal.

Playing tough and hard doesn't mean you need to fight. Finishing your checks and playing with an edge should ALWAYS be taught no matter what.
We do have some guys that can finish checks, but they aren't on a regular basis.
Hit everything that moves and don't back down doesn't mean you need fighters.

That part of hockey is dying too. I can't remember the last time revenge was exacted on a different player due to the actions of another. I agree it doesn't really belong in the game anymore. But sometimes it is warranted.

The NHL has made it impossible to police itself, they've only emboldens players like Wilson who know the most that'll happen is a shove, the instigator rule which is improperly called most times protects the aggressor, the NHL is ass backwards when it comes to player safety

You are correct, I think to some extent the hope was that the Rangers could put the game away on that 5 on 3 and maybe even score twice, but that just didn't happen.

Some of these young guys do need to pull on their big boy pants and play a tougher game. Not fighting and such but just tougher and heavier. Players like Kakko and Laf need to lean on their opponents a little more this next game and add that to their tool boxes.

I think it's safe to say regardless of this all that one or two of Kakko, Kravstov or Gauthie are traded in a big deal during the offseason, we have too many top 9 wingers, we certainly have the prospect pool to land a difference maker and still have plenty of talented youth.
