You didn't but in my reply to 2.0 I was just pointing out that the defense isn't much different from last year, my point was that if we're going to acknowledge/cut Maurice some slack that in
19-20 that the defense group was bad then we kind of have to this season as well cause it isn't much different. - JetFuel
The defence has never been good. The team has consistently been finishing in the bottom 10 for PK for 4 out of the last 5 years.
Furthermore, they have also consistently been in the bottom third in the league for high danger shots against.
Though I rag on Chevy, this team has predominantly been winning on talent alone. Talent assembly is Chevy’s job. In spite of poopty systems, this team has been able to overcome them because they are talented and can score at will.
What I am learning this year is that hard work and proper systems have never been implemented here and that is the reason the Jets are nose diving. |

Here's the Jets biggest problem of why that is.
Wheeler 8.25 M
Stastny 6.5
Perreault 4.12
That's nearly 25% of your cap space for past their prime players. - BWJumper
One more note on this post. I do hope that the Jets redirect that 6.5 and 4.12 to a guy like Dougie Hamilton this offseason. I think 7.5 - 8 million/season can get it done! |

I was close. Benn isn't going in for Stanley. It's nice to Heinola getting a chance on the third pairing with Demelo. - Napolean-Mennonite
I'm not an expert on the smaller aspects of ELS slides but I believe this is Heinola's 11th NHL game. There was some Covid ruling about ELS where 10 NHL GP thresholds for 18/19 year olds shall be pro-rated by a factor of 56/82. So I'm not entirely sure if it means Heinola slides with fewer games or more ? |

"If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to 'slide', or extend, by one year."
That was on Capfriendly. According to Puckprose, the slide only counts for the first season signed. For this season, the 10 games is pro-rated. Heinola has already played 2 games this year according to Elite Prospects and 8 last year. I'm still confused if that means that the Jets already used the slide clause last season or if it starts again this season. |

Not defending Maurice as I never bought into what he was selling or the systems he runs but this defense is essentially exactly the same as it was in 19-20. - JetFuel
I agree that the strength of this team is definitely not the blue line. Some differences from last year: no Bitetto or Spisa, less Beaulieu. Forbort has been an upgrade, full season of Demelo (an upgrade), 1 year more experience for a young group. This D is not a strength but it is also not the crisis it was last year. |

Agree UJ. Bare minimum we should be reading from Friedman or any of the insiders that Winnipeg offered him the most money. At least we know he tried and Hamilton turned the Jets down.
I believe Chicago will probably go after him though.

I do not know about you guys, but I am super jacked for the game tonight!
We went from fighting for first place a couple of weeks ago to fighting for our playoff lives. Awwww Yea!!!
I do feel disappointed as I thought that my prediction of this team finishing first was really going to happen. Furthermore also looks like my silver dreams have also been crushed. |

Heinola is eligible to slide again, he has 5 games left before he burns a year of his ELC, playoff games count against it as well.
There's an Entry-Level Slide feature on CapFriendly that has this info, you'll find it under the player category. |

Absolutely brutal decision by Maurice to pull Stanley though. |

I was referring to the actual defense group(JoMo, Pionk, Poolman, etc.) not the overall defense played by the entire team.
Well they obviously can't score at will, if they could they wouldn't be on this losing streak. |

So essentially if this is the case they don't play him much once it appears we are playoff bound because home-ice advantage beyond that doesn't really mean much and the Jets may be a better road team than not. They let him get as much AHL experience as possible and then tune him up near the end of the season should he be of use for the playoffs. So his ELC did obviously play a lot into this in a Covid season. We could see him play another game or two and then still be there for three playoff games before having to make a decision if the Jets last beyond the first round.

Surprised that Scheifele only has 500 points. I for sure thought he had way more than that!
I love that guy!!!! |

the problem though is a lot of times it does not get to the point of an offer, a team will call a players agent and ask if there is interest before talking money. if the agent says no, the player would rather focus on other locations, that ends the conversation |

And the Flames lost, that's always good to see!
That team sucks, they need to blow it up and start over. |

This would indeed be national headline advertising revenue generating clickbait if the Jets were owned by the 2 largest media giants in the country. |
