Okposo logically shouldn't be bought out until 22. If they bought him out this summer, it would be a service to the player instead of the team. To save the most cap, it makes more sense to send him to Rochester. But I don't see them doing that to him. Plus you reduce the amount of years he's on the cap from 4 to 2.
Skinner probably doesn't face a BO until 23. You can get past his 8.9M cap hit if you do it in 23 instead of 22. Then, most years you're saving over 6M.
Jeff had Jason over a barrel, and he paid him way too much even given his entire playing history, but credit to Jason, he made his contract pretty easy to buy out after 4 years.

Does retaining half of Okposo's salary make him movable for a pair of 5ths?
I think I would do that. We really need to move on from that guy

Maybe. You need to weigh the options vs necessity vs cost. I don't want to make a big post about it, but there's maybe 3 or 4 ways to go about it. And getting off scott free isn't one of them.
David Clarkson
Nathan Horton
Marc Staal
Patrick Marleau
Nikita Zaitsev
Marian Hossa
Marian Gaborik
Useless contracts are traded all the damn time and not always for first round picks.
It’s an excuse - sbroads24
brody is right...they really need to pull it off with okposo, and there's no reason they shouldn't be able to...
okposo has a $2M bonus coming up and will be owed only $6M for the final two years of his deal with a cap-hit of $6M...a 15-team no-trade list means there are 16 teams that are not on it...find one...it has to be done...

I just think it's time to turn the page on him. The Pegulas seemingly love him though so he'll most likely be back next fall. There's zero chance they waive him. I don't see that as a realistic possibility. And his actual cash owed is below his AAV so I don't see them buying him out. That basically just leaves a trade and he holds half of the cards with his m-ntc.
I would certainly part with mid-rounders and retain celery to turn the page

a third-rounder this year, at most, should get it done
