they're useful for determining how much you have the puck. They're not particularly good at showing if what you're doing with it is at all meaningful.
Good tool, probably overvalued and overused though. - BINGO!

total crock of sh!t - homiedclown
Think the League office took note that last night was a message to them as much as it was to the Caps. Opening face off, all three forwards drop gloves. Then they went after Wilson on his first shift before there’s two more fights in a row right at the drop of the puck. Oh, and the statement the owner put out the other day had a lot to do with it. The League does not tolerate such insolence from a member organization. |

Verhagee was on a 20.5 point pace last year over an 82 game season.
He was on pace for 68 points this year before the injury.
Florida did the same thing scooping up Marchessault for peanuts before exposing him in the Expansion draft because Dale Tallon captain Eye test thought it was a great idea.
Ironically enough for Bingo, the Hurricanes employ Eric Tulsky and they have been the biggest users of analytics the last three years outside of maybe Colorado.

Very true. Only thing I’d alter in your statement is, he was a good young player stuck in the (TB) bottom 6. |

Has nothing to do with analytics
Has to do with a player who was trapped in the bottom6 behind good players in Tampa,
who has this year been playing in the top6 in Florida
His SITUATION improved, and NATURALLY so did his stats- as one would EXPECT |

Not every bottom 6 player is going to explode on another teams top 6.
Just like Sbroads is trying to prove, which you are ironically now agreeing with.
Player with strong analytics, but 20 point output was a better investment than many player whom had 50 points last year.

There’s more of a soap opera element to that whole fiasco than has ever come out.
Imo, it was mostly about getting rid of Smith before his NTC kicked in.
Tl/dr
Smith was underwhelming after earning a big contract extension the year before (up year/down year Smith), Tallon’s replacement (and eventually Gallant’s replacement) GM/Coach Rowe scapegoated Smith a couple of times. You could see the whole team looked miserable playing for Rowe, but it was most evident in Smith. Imo, The bridge was toast before Tallon ever was put back in charge shortly before the expansion draft. Idk if owners wanted him gone, but Tallon was left to try to trade Smith coming off a down year, with a big extension about to kick in, at a time when everyone was already scrambling to protect their own players from expansion draft. Trading from such a weak position makes me think the owners just wanted him gone. It wound up costing them Marchessault, who was due a new deal coming off his breakout season. |

Man I really hate sitting in the Doctor's waiting room. Tell you to be here at a certain time them you wait and wait. - Buff36
I have one doctor who realizes this sucks. His office tells you to call about an hour before your appointment and they’ll let you know how behind they are so you can adjust. It’s brilliant. |

Yup.
That’s my main point.
The largest difference between 30 and 50 point guys is who their line mates are and PP time |

Which I agree with, for the most part.
My only thing is when it comes down to it, the guys with the highest AAV’s do need the points to go along with the impact.
That’s where I differ. |

I think they need them to justify the contract but I don’t think they “need” them for the team to be successful
It looks terrible for Skinner, and don’t get me wrong he needs more goals
But we could be a good team with him getting 14-18 EV goals in a middle six role. Especially if we’re getting cheap production other places like Thompson, Mitts, Asplund, Bjork etc |

Sure until it's one of the Big boy's on the team - Buff36
If you listened to the entire interview, you had to take it in context. He said he expected the league to enforce a policy where if x% of players and personnel were vaccinated, the rules would be loosened. In other words, let's say the league has a rule where if 75% of personnel were vaccinated, you could have more in person meetings, maskless activities, etc. If you were below that threshold, you would most likely have to go back to last year's protocols.
Beane said that if it came to that, and the Bills were at, say 74%, they would absolutely consider cutting an unvaccinated player for a vaccinated one because they would look at it as a competitive advantage. In other words, bubble players are signed and cut from the roster all throughout the year. If the Bills are close to the league's threshold for lighter guidelines, a vaccinated player will be at a much higher likelihood of being kept than an unvaccinated one. The likes of Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen can do whatever the (frank) they want. They're safe. It's the bubble players that are in trouble with this.
