Lumber sticker shock is real. I spent 200 bucks on 12 pieces of pressure treated deck boards of varying lengths to make a 12" garden border encircling about 200 sq ft

Be prepared for sticker shock on lumber.

Everyone is making a backyard oasis or other COVID-related house project.

We had a couple places quote out all the material on the addition (rona, home hardware, copps) it included decking. Gave them a rough size of the deck we would be building. I think we’re probably saving about 30% on average but atleast we have the ballpark in case we decide to use all new pressure treated.

Last summer my kids' summer camps were cancelled.

They were moping around, so Mrs. Wedgie came up with the idea of letting them build a dog house. I wasn't thrilled, because we've spent quite a bit of time and money making the backyard look nice - but of course I was outvoted 1-0 by my wife.

Anyhoo, dropped about $200 on 2X4s and sheets of chip board. Thank goodness, I got the idea to not buy paint or shingles until they actually made the damn thing.

Of course, they never did jack, other than cutting some of the 2X4s into proper lengths.

It's now all in my storage shed, where it is a giant pain in the ass.

I'd love to be able to just throw it all out, but it's now worth $47,000, so I don't have the heart to put it on the curb.

Try Fairbank Lumber. I haven't been there since last year, but I usually find them cheaper than any of the big box stores.

you could probably just rent out to the shed to a young married couple for $1200 a month

here's a suggestion Wedgie... next time the "wifey" suggests you need to do something around the house - immediate says yes of course... then come back somewhere between 30-60 minutes later... using that time to concoct the reason why the space you need for the next job is taking up by some junk that is currently in the storage shed
.... after which you can genuinely play stupid... about what to do with the valuable dog house materials taking up space in the shed.

simple " can't move forward with the honey-doo list until we address what takes priority" ... so you actively give the decision making over to the honey-doo list owner... and just reinforce that you aren't "tooled to make those decisions"...

kick back... beer in hand.

true Borje story... had virtually the identical dilemna last year - family were making comments about my "make work projects"... that did not end well for the family.

With the exception of some bikes and some skis, everything in the storage shed is mine.

Don't you dare suggest this to Mrs. Wedgie - she'll come up with crazy ideas like the $60 turkey fryer I bought 7 years ago and used once should be thrown out.

Or the four uncomfortable wooden stools that haven't been used in a year.

I think it's so I can collect 5 points in my hockey pool before the end of the year, because I didn't realize the extent of his injury when I drafted him. This is a kind offer on the part of the Stars, but the guy leading the pool has McDavid, so it's all pointless.
