Yeah, Gus stole the show alright. And management congratulated him by extending Forsberg. I'm furious right now. So Murray and Forberg will be our starters next year, and Gustavsson will rot in Belleville. I'd also take Daccord over Forsberg.

When are Dorion etc al. gonna start trusting this youth core? How many more "veteran/character guys" are they gonna bring in THIS off-season? Cuz Stepan, Paquette, Coburn, Gudbranson, etc. have been GREAT contributors this year.

Stop sheltering our investments. Allow them to blossom.

It's not impossible that they might protect Murray, but that mindset is dangerously narcissistic. Trying to make a single trade look good after the fact is objectively irrelevant in the context of a multi-year rebuild... and falls more into the category of potentially making a bad situation worse. At the end of the day, there was never going to be a way for them to protect all of Hogberg, Daccord, and Gustavsson. But they can at least try to make sure they protect the one of those 3 they have the most confidence in regarding long-term potential, and right now that looks like Gustavsson.

Not sure I agree that Forsberg being extended for 1yr is a legitimate barrier to the development of Gustavsson, so much as a relatively straight-forward insurance policy for the expansion draft. It also speaks to the reality that their goaltenders are expected to be the primary target for Seattle.

I agree.

Forsberg will not be protected in the expansion draft. He would not be a bad choice as 2nd or 3rd goalie for Seattle. Possible that Seattle takes him and flips him to another team wanting to build some goaltending depth. 900k for 1 year is a nice number for some of the teams being crushed by the cap.

Seattle just can't handle the amount of goalie options from the Ottawa franchise.

Watch a guy like Nick Paul get picked by Seattle.

Remember Las Vegas selected players and flipped them to other teams. I imagine Paul would be a keeper for Seattle. They could also flip him to a contending team looking to build team depth. I like Paul a lot.

That's the type of goal we were all expecting to see from Formenton!

Nick Kyprios asks:

"Who's Gonna Stop Tom Wilson?"

Saw one response saying only his teammate (Chara) has the size to handle him.

I am not promoting a match. But Brady is a tough fighter.

By the time the Sens play the Caps next season, very good chance that Brady has the size to match or better Wilson.

As I said, I don't want to see Brady fighting. But, if he went head to head with Wilson he might have the entire NHL supporting him.

I'm just salty cuz this is yet another choice by management to push the prospects back again. And again. And again. And again.

Maybe by 2025 Gustavsson will finally be given a chance, and guys like Formenton will finally get promoted to the 3rd line.
