I believe Liane won’t be hanging around, and if he is you can’t build around him. Domi is still 3rd line center, he shouldn’t be carrying a team. Looks more like rebuilding in Columbus. Young team with a young coach. Columbus is a proud sports town but you need guys that want to be there with a coach that sets a positive environment.

Is Eichel/Dahlin too much to give up for this return?

Well depends on what Buffalo thinks of Dahlin. If they don't think he will ever be a #1 franchise defenseman they drafted first overall then no, but obviously if they think he is or even close then BIG YES.

I get Seth Jones has a lot of value, but worst case that's a swap for Eichel. The rest (Merzlikins, Texier and a 1st) is for Dahlin? It's not even a decent 1st or even in a strong draft. If that's the case many teams can easily put a better package together for Dahlin, hopefully the Flyers, if that is the cost.

Why not throw Cozens in there, too.

That is awful.

Top 10 center in the league and a developing superstar offensive defenseman for...

A top 2 or 3 D. a 1B goalie. A bad first. And a Casey Mittelwinger.

I have not laughed this hard since leaf nation thought Kaberle was the next Bobby Orr when suggesting returns for his trade

Welcome back Thomas,

Someone please tell me why we would want Eichel after having serious surgery (as I understand/read about it), and him being part of an absolute disaster in Buffalo for years. IMO he is damaged goods at this point, and it's no fault of his own. I am more than willing to be told why I am wrong about this.

Sadly, I think the reality is that the problems with signing players has been that the CBJ ownership has a budget and the team cannot spend to the cap, therefore JK has to have hardball negotiations to keep people. Of course he will never say this, but it seems that it is the case.

This year after the trades and such there is $$$ available to sign people, and they better get started on it.

What’s the price for Dahlin if Buffalo is willing to deal?
Dahlin might work in Detroit?

Detroit? 2021 1st, Seider, Hronek, maybe more. I can tell you that the org would need to be blown out of the water to consider dealing him. And the above is a start.

Did you really just say that Seth Jones is a #2 or #3 defenseman?

Obviously you don't spend a lot of time looking at other teams in the league. Your posts are usually great, but you are a little cheese short of a full taco on that comment...

lol

I want to refine this post because replying with an emoji or lol is bad taste.

The organization has no concern whatsoever that Eichel will be healthy and ready for the offseason and training camp. I understand the concern for guys with relatively serious injuries, but it's one he should be able to get past, with multiple treatment options. He's too elite of a talent to give up on for an average return.

1) That was early Seth Jones
2) Nashville had a plethora of defensemen that (in their mind) made him a bit more expendable to fill another need.

Obviously that trade would not happen now, which is why swapping young stars can be dangerous.

Thanks for reading. #3, probably out of bounds. 1 or 2. I'll give you that.

I've watched 5 games this year. Bad sample. Am I mistaken that Seth's not been up to par this season? Perhaps a result of the team around him. Which, of course, is what Dahlin is dealing with as well.

The Sabres and the Jackets both need a strong 1C. The proposal would need to be much stronger to release a needed piece. He's not expendable by any means. As uninteresting as it is, we actually have a plethora of middle 6 forwards that we would probably be looking to trade for a middle pairing defenseman.
