More impressed with Matthew's season to be honest, though both are lighting it up.

Out of the two, if I need to win a game I'll take Matthew's. If I want to win a fantasy league I'll take McDavid. Let's see if they keep it up come playoff time.

I’m a die-hard Leafs fan.

I’ve been a season ticket holder for about 25 years.

I was Rick Vaive’s paperboy when he put up 3 50-goal seasons.

As I type this, I am wearing Leafs underwear, drinking a beer out of a Leafs souvenir cup from the ACC.

So I take no pleasure in saying this:

You are completely franking wrong.

Matthews is great defensively from where I'm sitting.
- Zezel

Same 100%. Every year consistently stronger away from the puck.

I don’t think it’s much of a debate personally when look at their game at 200ft. Matthews hands down. Much as McDavid no question speed with puck and passing ability, it’s Matthews scoring and defensively.

If we go by save percentage, these are the top 4 goalies in the North who played at least 20 games.

Mike Smith is 6th in the league (.925), Campbell is 7th (.924), Hellebuyck is 16th (.915), Markstrom is 34th (.905).

They both played 8 games against a team getting above average goaltending all season. They played 8 games against a team who just got average goaltending. And 40 games against teams who got below average/way below average performances.

I love that you think you had a mic drop moment, but you literally proved nothing. MacKinnon is not part of the discussion. I simply threw him in the conversation anecdotally for top players in the league.

Soooo, what you said does not negate the fact that how they perform in their division IS NOT relative to what would happen against the rest of the league.

Thanks for stopping by.

- Rinosaur

The divisions are all very similar. McDavid and Matthews would do this any division, and will have similar numbers next season. Check it out.

But in case others are wondering:

Matthews has no EN goals, 2 EN assists.

McDavid has 2 EN goals, 5 EN assists.

So you are saying McDavid is trusted more defensively when the other team has an extra man on the ice?

Easily Mcdavid, The Oilers are straight up trash without him. They would be sitting at the bottom of the North without him. Matthew's plays a better team game though. Mcdavid routinely takes 3+ minute shifts. I guess it's the only way they can win games though. McDavid goes 100 mph on offence & about 15 mph on defence. Matthew's has been exceptionally good on defense this year. The Leafs depth takes the spotlight off Matthew's. The Oilers have no depth so it's all about McDavid.

Sorry, but neither of them would have accomplished these things in a regular season format facing higher quality competition on a regular basis.

While I still expect the two of them along with MacKinnon to compete for the scoring title every year, you WILL NOT see these kinds of numbers again once they return to the regular format.

Matthews played 10 games with a busted wrist where he literally couldn't shoot. He also.scored 47 playing with Kapanen/johnsson on his wings. He could be over 50 right now.

As for the north argument I'm sure he wouldn't be able to score against sieve defenses in Buffalo, New Jersey and Philly. Insert eye roll here

I will give it to McDavid.

Matthews needed to put up atleast 10 more points to make in interesting. If he could have put up 75-80 points, then I think it becomes a real discussion, is 20-25 assists worth more then 10 extra goals.

Shocking another post by Eklund full of mistakes wrt his topic. AM hasn't played 53 games. And he wouldn't be on pace for 62 goals in 82 games. Its to bad because this site could be quite good but constantly he demonstrates that he doesn't watch this sport. He watches one team and then goes to other sports sites to try to rip off from other reporters

I’m a fan of Matthews, he’s fun to watch. But, there isn’t a team in the league that wouldn’t trade their best player plus for McDavid.

Right on I’ve watched every leafs game this season and it is painful to watch the defensive play in the north. The leafs would be fighting for a wild card in a regular year.

Matthews picking on weak competition and this includes the oilers is less impressive then mcdavid having to play the leafs instead of his own organizational disaster of a team.

The question is about which accomplishment was more impressive, not who is the better player. McDavid is the best player in the league. It is not even that close. I also think that 100 pts. (he is going to do it) is more impressive than the goals, but it is closer than what people are expressing here.

Both McDavid and Matthews have been good in their own ways, I would call it a tie.

However, in the event of a tie, the first tie-breaker is mustache, and Matthews wins by a mile.

So now pro-rate McDavids points.

Both are having an awesome season but...
you saying you wouldn't trade Matthews for McDavid if you had the chance?
