Should be looked at and fixed moving forward, but TB has done nothing wrong.

Ok. What we should do is raise the salary cap to $150m. Toronto, Rangers et al would rule. If you can’t deal with that Miami or TB then sell your franchise. Discounted tickets and tiny local tv right deals can only go so far.
I mean. If you are going to play the capitalist card, at least do your homework.

- BernardShakey

And you should level up your reading comprehension skills. The point I'm making is that there are advantages and disadvantages all over. It's ignorant to only want to go after opposing team's advantages while turning a blind eye to your own.

Also I do like playing the capitalist card, but the salary cap is based on the leagues revenue. It's not something arbitrarily decided upon by someone who has zero knowledge of the ramifications of it, such as (Insert any socialist here). Furthermore the market size is irrelevant to the magnitude of the salary cap. We have a hedgefund operator running the finances down here, we would be perfectly fine. But I guess you didn't know any of that? Maybe you should do your own homework?

The PA does not and will never allow the league to independently examine players. However, the insurance providers have occasionally denied questionable claims. This is where the door opens for the league to investigate. The Hossa and Lupul incidents in 2017 were fine examples.

Each year almost every team manipulates the duration of player's injuries to circumvent the cap. This is why players rarely are on injury leave for 8 or 9 games. Injuries of this length are almost always extended to 10 games (or 24 days), which is the minimum for LTIR.

Additionally, a number of teams do what Tampa is doing, extending injuries until the end of the season to allow for deadline acquisitions. A few teams do this every year. There is little the league can do. The teams do not care and the PA won't accept any of the proposed changes I've seen posted elsewhere in this thread.

- Jackie Daytona

Wasn’t Lupul made to undergo an independent evaluation by the league after a he made some comments about the Leafs faking his injury and a picture of him skiing surfaced? The independent examination found him unfit and Leafs were vindicated. Point here is that I think a independent examination by the league can happen

Never understood the reasoning behind the cap being eliminated come playoff time! That really doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Yeah TB is taking advantage of the LTIR as they should but it should be treated like the NFL IR where they only have so long to either come back or they’re out for the year regardless.

No u can google everything he’s been skating for 2 weeks. Please let me know when u get your hip done and I Will call u
- Justbecause

Pasta had his hip done, was back playing in early February. I'll grant you Tampa played longer than Boston last post season (congrats), but it wasn't three months longer. Don't expect anyone to believe this wasn't planned by Tampa from the get go. They knew they were in cap hell and knew Kuch needed hip surgery. They found a way to circumvent the rules by have Kuch delay surgery just long enough to give them cap relief but still be back for the post season.

The stupid rules need to be fixed to take care of this. The cap should apply for all games...period. If LTIR is used and cap relief is granted then the player should be out until the following season. Simple.

it is fair

but, just so we are clear, if the Rangers did this, the rules would be changed tomorrow

Rules are rules. The NHL should change them if they want it to stop. I'm much more interested to see how they get under the cap for next season.

Chicago did it.

I think it's fair. You dont know the health. The rules just need tweaking to make it more fair.

If it's within the current rules. All is fair.

For years Leafs been taking on LTIR players like Horton and Clarkson to get around Cap. Hawks had Kane out just prior to playoffs 5 years ago, and used to their advantage.

Teams around the league use these loopholes constantly. Just because Tampa is STACKED, you can't blame them. If they could easily make the playoffs without Stamkos and Kucherov.....and can NOW legally add them for the playoffs, well done.

Hope they win the Cup.....just to hear the whiners....lol

Could backfire in a way. Kuch will be very rusty. Remember Nylanders holdout? It was less than two months and he went on to have the worst season of his career.
I hold to see Kuch struggle to keep up while holding a spot on the top line.
A spider note, Hedman is playing through a serious injury. Remember the year Columbus beat them 4-0 without Hedman? If he's at 70% Florida could easily get through him.

I believe Bettman came into this league planning on tapping into US dollars at any cost.
Non-hockey-fans complained about the fight, tried to remove fighting. Winnipeg moves south, Quebec moves south. New teams introduced in Cali, Florida, Arizona, and more.
Those new, non-hockey markets struggle to sell tickets and merch. How can they fix that? Favour those teams to help them win. Winning sells. So now, questionable or borderline calls will always favour the poor teams. This comes at the expense of the strongest financial teams, which means the traditional markets with loyal fan get screwed, and Toronto and New York get it the worst. Mostly Toronto because they are on the wrong side of the boarder and therefore generate very little dollars when it comes to American TV revenue, and this applies to the other, smaller, Canadian markets.

LTIR has be a debacle for a long time. Teams trading players on LTIR to gain that extra Cap space or make the Cap floor. You guys crying are a bunch of Ass Clowns. TB did nothing wrong and played within the rules. If it was that serious of an issue the league should have a group of independent Drs to evaluate a players potential return to play from LTIR. Does Hossa and his allergy come to mind?? Until there is a simple solution to determine a players return to play. Stop crying and leave it alone.

Typical Leafs fan, conspiracy theorist!! Didnt you sign JT?? He didnt stay in the States. The Leafs will never win cause your GM is too dumb to realize you cant have 1/2 your cap space tied up in 4 players.

...Do you really think 35 words is a lot? It took you twice as many just to complain about people being butthurt and misrepresent (or just misunderstand) Occam’s razor.

The only people I think its unfair to is the Fans
that single mother whose bringing her kid to see their favourite player Steven Stamkos for the first time. But he is "out" for no reason.
It sucks.

I think its a sign of a different attitude in players as well. Less likely to put it all on the line for the fans or the team. They're thinking they want to have working bodies after retirement and why not. Fans will continue to ask for more out of those who give, so its a fine balance. Personally I respect those who want to give everything they can to the fans and the team but I understand the other side.
